  1. You can do a pair (or what would turn into a colony of pulchers or brichardi). You could do a couple of jullies and some yellow's.. It would come down the temperment of the individual fish, I have heard of demasoni's being kept in tanks this small and working I think the cichlid-forum article recommends 90 x 45 x 45 for 12. I am considering sticking my colony of demasoni in a 3ft tank and seeing how they go because im sick of pulling the 540L tank down every weekend to catch holding females.. However I probably wouldn't recommend it as your tank is only 100L and you have nowhere else to put them if it goes wrong.. Go for a 4ft and your options increase I guess it depends if your willing to upgrade the tank later
  2. Always annoys me when a shop expects to sell a fish for top $$ and they cant or wont even look after them, especially if its a specialized fish show like hollywoods its not really acceptable in my books! These are really cool fish, I wish everyone well in their breeding attempts as im not setup to get any at the moment
  3. lol im sure theres 148 I put it in paint and stuck a dot on each one as I counted it Thats heaps of babies, I cant believe you can get them to spawn at that size? How big is your male, I have 12-13cm females that wont hold, mind you my male is small, and I thought I was doing well with 17 out of my demasoni today first time she's held
  4. Ok well Blackadder is a legend! He made me up a buffer solution and got it in the mail thanks heaps man lol now gotta get new batts for ph metre as it went flat sitting in fishroom for so long lol
  5. lol im not even going to bother counting them! Theres lots lol probably more than what is imported in nz yearly! Well done.. Is that from one female? do yours hold full term or do they need to be stripped early and tumbled?
  6. Sounds and looks like a good plan ill post some pics of my fishroom when I tidy it up What are you using for the flooring? I have concrete floors in my fishroom and even when the rooms 24C they are cold as so ive got to be loosing heat from there..
  7. Cuz the guy breeding them lives there.. I doubt they know much about them though Who knows.. I was reading his location and thinking they wont be around where he is..
  8. fish shops are very unlikely to have or know anything about fronts..
  9. lol fronts are african cichlids they don't breed in pairs more in colonies you need at least a 6-8ft tank ph above 8 hard water and you most likely wont buy mature ones as they take 4-5years to mature and breed successfully, a real enthusiasts fish They should be getting more common eventually as there are alot of young colonies around that will be maturing..

    new tank

Read the article it said what to add to correct what you want to.. Just look at your measurements and adjust what you have to.. Ph add baking soda gh add epsom salt and i presume kh add normal salt.. I think both epsom and normal salt raise kh..

    new tank

I wouldn't try and muck around with it too much more over 8 that should be fine man, just chuck in some salt to get the KH up so it stays stable, and figure out how much you need to add with water changes, remember to replace any evaporated water with fresh water also
  12. What do you feed? I have heard that I primarily spirilina based diet can cause marks like this and have seen it in a few of my fish, from what ive found and seen it is completely harmless.. Either that or it is something genetic (like the black marks some yellow's get when they age) and it has just grown into it

    new tank

lol same as the link I posted above to the cichlid forum one haha have a read of the link doch it tells you what to do, and with everything add a little at a time to figure out how much you need to add for your water, it is all explained in the link.. Here is is again http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/buffer_recipe.php

    new tank

Was the ph 7 or 7.5? You can raise that with baking soda
  15. ryanjury

    new tank

Ph is 7-7.5? lol you should be able to get it more accurate than that? Do you mean 7.6-7.7? Gh could come up a bit as could KH but its not bad You could easily add some of that buffer to bring it up if you have trouble finding the right substrate..

    new tank

Yeah your right Have you actually tested your water yet? Maybe its sweet already.. Or you can make something like this http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/buffer_recipe.php

    new tank

Yeah that might do it, dont people use oyster shells?
  18. Yeah they wont go upto the top of the tank for food unless they have alot of confident tank mates.. I would try bristlenoses with them, are they a pair? did you get pic's?

    new tank

Just see if it has anything added to it.. I think you can just use lime chips im sure ive seen it in someones tank but unsure where and what it was..
  20. They would be sweet now.. But I'm not setup for anymore until after I get back from timor next year not setting up the fishroom till I'm back cuz its not fair on the misses to have to look after them all while I'm away lol will get in touch with you when I'm back..
  21. Awesome man they're looking good still keen on some at some stage they're very nice fish
  22. lol yeah I'm struggling to call them both pulcher too..
  23. Nice pic, I haven't had much success tumbling them from that size yet seems to be a bit of an art, I usually stick the fish and egg's they drop in a bowl and leave them alone hopefully they pick them up again, lol did it twice to a poor demasoni, stripped her a week ago they were egg's she took them up, forgot when I stripped her caught her again the other day and they were like your pic so she took them up again haha this time ill leave her Are these the maileri your breeding Mark?
