  1. I got told by a man at redwood that the Stellars were the best/quietest air pumps he has ever used and they aren't too dear so might be worth a shot Gary
  2. Yes but darned if I can work out what it was, and he bounced back so quickly. All the parameters seem very stable also - I have been testing frequently. I don't think it is cotton wool as it really isolated to the spot where his fin is has come away and none of the cases I can find on google seem to present themselves like that. It also seems to end up with a quite a large mass of it and his seems to be coming away before more "grows". That is the reply I am hoping for really, I have quarantined him to let him chill out and so I can watch the water quality more carefully. He really has seemed to return to his old self, I am just really worried about anything spreading from his damaged fin which is obviously quite vulnerable. Thank you very much for your reply!
  3. Hi all, Recently brought a 180l tank and got it through a fishless cycle. It is my new community tank and as such it become a new home for my dwarf gourami Archer. Things have been going really well, all the other tankmates are acting normally. Last night I come home to find Archer sucked against my filter intake, I had a wee moment for him and turned off the filter and set about finding a net. I come back to the tank and hooray! Archer is alive! He was a little disorientated at first but once I got some food into him he perked up straight away and started exhibiting his normal behavior. He must have been stuck on the filter for at least 6 hours so I am a very happy man to have him survive. Water tested with 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and 10ppm nitrates - ph level exactly the same as the tank that he came from and has appeared to be thriving in. So I'm not sure what happened but water quality seems good. After this whole ordeal Archer has a large ding next to his spine near the top of his body and some red lines are coming through his usual blue which I do not think is natural coloration but a result of having his body sucked against the filter for so long. He appears to have made nearly a full recovery, however I am very worried about his top fin. Some of it has turned grey, almost as if it is dying off. Around the back of his fin he has developed a slight white fuzz, I have never had sick fish so I'm sorry I cannot describe it better. Please see the attached files, if anyone can tell me what it is or how I can make sure it doesn't effect him or his tank mates adversely I would appreciate it very very much. He's an awesome fish and I really want to do all I can. Sorry if I am rambling in my panic, please let me know if anyone needs more information, I hope the photos are clear enough
  4. They are the golden version of yours, do you have just a pair? Is it recommended to get two females to a male? Can't believe they are still at the LFS they are absolutely stunning Picking up on Saturday
  5. Welcome! I'm sure you will find these forums invaluable I certainly have! Tanks are looking good. What type of rocks are those in the second picture?
  6. It's been a couple weeks since I've seen them and I'm a little lost as my head is full of all this Killi information I have been researching but I am sure they are also Gardneri Akure, going to go and see if they are still there this afternoon and confirm what they are. Tank seems to be ready so they should be coming home this week provided I have my facts straight about them. Very excited. What sort of setup do you have them in?
  7. Far out these have been an exciting purchase for you haven't they! I'm getting antsy waiting for this tank to be ready...

    HELP!

How are the goldfish going now?
  9. I've only just found this website on Sunday and I think I'll be doing an order this weekend. I would be interested to know how you get on with your ferts and how aquaticplants.co.nz are to deal with. Keep us posted!
  10. Ha well after the weekend it is now cycling, looking forward to starting a killi adventure.
  11. I have done a few searches but can't seem to find too much information on this. I want to be able to light my tank in the evenings so I can see my fish whilst keeping my proper lighting similar to a real life photo period. I already have the odd algae problem so I was wondering if anyone could advise some night/moon lighting available in NZ or even just tell me what light I can use without stressing my fish or feeding the algae. Thanks in advance

    Tank Stand

My breeder tanks are just on an old small desk, canister underneath, draws for some of your fishy equipment. I got lucky and got a really nice one on the side of the road, seems people often have bits of furniture like that to give away. I have another display tank on an old unwanted entertainment cabinet and it looks purpose made really. Just a thought.
  13. Agh I decided to get off general social media but so many keepers use it and there is so much fish information I think I might have to join back up.
  14. I love these fish, do you or anyone else have any advice on keeping them in a community? Will a pair work well? I have a 20g with 6 male guppies a dwarf gourami and a bristlenose do you think the gourami would give the killi's a hard time? There is a beautiful pair at my LFS I would love to take home. Congrats on the fry
  15. Thank you I will make some enquiries, I'm sure this will be my best option if there is nothing surplus to requirements from Aquarium World members.
