In a previous life I have built hundreds and repaired heaps of tanks. Virtually every tank I have repaired has broken right next to the central brace and for that reason I only use European bracing. The greates pressure is at the bottom of the tank so the height is the critical factor. The width is not a problem untill the ends get big enough to have problems with flexing. European bracing assists with the flexing which is greatest at the top on the greatest span. The bonding to the base can be helped by adding euro bracing to the bottom and increasing the bonding area where the pressure is greatest.

I was brought up in a similar situation. We lived on the Hydro jobs at Lake Pukaki and Roxborugh Hydro, they lasted 6 years and everyone moved on to the next job---leaving their cats behind. My young sister was only a baby in a cot when my father found her struggling to breath with a deserted cat lying on her face because it was warm. From then on he killed every cat that came on the property by trapping them and cutting their heads off with an axe. This no doubt has flavoured my thinking about cats and it has been made worse by having to deal with the six cats in our location that use our place as a public toilet and the fact that I have valuable pets that stay on our property and are harrassed and could be killed by someone elses wandering cat. Having to deal with pussylovers who keep 20-30 half feral mange and flea ridden inbred cats full of wounds from fighting has not help me to convert to pussylovin either. Please forgive me if I take this matter seriously.

You have been beaten to the idea, it is called a burka and it is for men that cannot control themselves so they are not tempted.

I inspected the toilets in a pub once and rarked the publican up about not having a seat on one of the ladies toilets. He explained that a lady had been taken out through the main bar on a stretcher at prime time Saturday evening with the seat supaglued to her backside and they hadn't got round to replacing it yet.

If there is "a colony of cats" out there it means they have no owner and are wild or feral wether in the rural or urban area. The SPCA should trap and destroy them not get members to feed and encourage them. Donations to the SPCA ---I think not. I have been involved with the SPCA in trapping and sorting out 20-30 diseased and half feral cats about yearly from under a pussylover's house so they do and can sort this out in the urban area. If they are not it is because they have been taken over by "pussylovers" and they need to have a rethink.

To release cats (neutered or not) into groups or colonies in my opinion is fundamentally stupid. The will not be socialised to humans, checked for health but simply chucked a bit of food now and again. They will wander over properties and be a pain in the butt as they have a big territory and no "home". The SPCA should wake up and put down any cats that do not have a resposible owner to keep them under control. I think Morgan is a very sensible man and the SPCA have lost the plot and been taken over by "pussylovers"

One problem is that they catch reptiles. They get out in the sun and only move slowly until they warm up so easy prey for cats. Birds are not so easy and take a lot more stealth and work. All the wild lizards in the South Island are native.

They mean well but can cause a few problems like greenpeace. They have gone after businesses that they think have done something wrong but it is sometimes them that got it wrong and some poor outfit is then out of business. SPCA are the reason it is difficult to send reptiles by courier as many have just refused to take them as the easy way out. Some idiot sent a turtle in a cardboard box and it got squashed. Air NZ require that they be in a plastic container inside the box when you send by their pet flight. Would need to be good as it costs an arm and a leg. Many moons ago the council used to kill cats and dogs by using vehicle exhaust and dispose of the bodies at the pit. I think they charged either $5 or $10 to ratepayers and the SPCA used to use the service (they were ratepayers) but charge way more than that to their customers. I think they should put down way more strays and adopt only to people that will be good pet owners. At the moment they are a bit loose about who gets them so they can get rid of them and avoid puting them down.

A few years back the local Council used to put down stray cats and dogs with the exhaust from a vehicle and put the bodies into the rubbish pit and the SPCA used to avail themselves of the service as well. We probably have to contend with the cats protection league and the likes now.

I have used it without any problems. Can't see how it would alter pH either. You do need to be aware of what you are using and be careful.

That is the trouble with selling them before they get to mature colours---you sell the good stuff. I am better at picking how they might turn out now.

I use 4 litre icecream containers with a hole cut in the end. They look ugly but work well.

Most plants that are sold in the shops have been grown emersed. If you get them as soon as a plant order of cuttings comes into the shop you will make life easy. If you leave it for a few days the top of the plant will have started to convert to submersed growth and will die off if you plant it emersed. If you put the cuttings in a glass of water on the window ledge until you get it growing roots it will prevent the bottom from rotting off and will give it a head start.
