  1. I was trying to not sound too depressing.
  2. After you have them approved by Maf (and good luck with that) your best option would be to see an importer and bring them in with one of their shipments from an importer they know and use. You would not be the first person to send money overseas and not hear anything ever. This will give you discounted freight.
  3. Not in the area which was notified.
  4. Yes Caryl I was sent a copy of that from the Regional Council when enquiring about another aquatic plant. It names gigantea and spiralis only but says to contact your Regional Council. I am still trying to get more sense out of mine. It seems safe in the meantime to stay away from all straight leafed varieties of Vallisneria. The picture is of the variety sold as americana or spiralis (the long thin variety)
  5. It looks like V. americana or spiralis. I am still trying to find out what the exact status is but at the moment I understand it is not permitted.
  6. Sorry, my comments were uncalled for. I have never found the need to have a mobile phone.
  7. You can't use it while your driving so get a radio.

    eggs?

Yes you can (if they lay on the rock)
  9. Epsom salts may reduce some of the swelling caused by the fluid retention but will not address the cause of the fluid retention.
  10. Do you have it set up so you can do a backwash cycle or do you have to dismantle it periodically and clean the media.
  11. You need to keep a close eye on this problem. Dropsy is the signs that are caused by water retention when the kidneys fail from any number of reasons. Unless you know what has caused the kidney failure it is very difficult to treat so for all intent it is incurable. No doubt you are atatched to your fish but there is no point in prolonging a long and perhaps painful death. What are the active ingredients in this product as pop eye is not related to dropsy as far as I know? You will need to make sure that the treatment is not killing the nitrofying bacteria and causing a spike in ammonia and nitrite.
  12. We had Peter at our TT club meeting last night and would strongly suggest to attend if at all possible. A very knowledgable guy with a fascinating lecture.
  13. Actually it is called research and development.
  14. If I see you both you will be seriously lost but good luck anyway.
  15. Don't know what it is but it is not a gravid female. The one in Caryl's pic shows that well
  16. You could put a known male in there and if all hell lets lose the pet shop got it wrong.
  17. There are obviously advantages and disadvantages with each system. An undergravel system needs to be set up with the right graded filter material because it is basically a slow sand filter like used in water treatment. This is not normally compatable with growing plants. I had a fish house with a lot of tanks all with undergravel filters originally but I found them too much work in cleaning and sterilizing between uses so I went on to bare tanks and diatom filters which were fashionable at the time. They are not fashionable now but are good filters in my view. The nitrogen cycle can be handled with a good balance of water changes and biological loading (the number of fish in the tank). Each has its place and you pays ya money and takes ya pick.
  18. If you want more males raise the temperature.
  19. It is an infection so can show up at any stage. For practical purposes it is not curable and fish in Q with it are destroyed. Guppies have all sorts of problems and are weak due in part from inbreeding.
  20. It is not common as it should be picked up during quarantine.
  21. They generally look wasted with TB.
