I am getting rid of my two electric labidos as I have purchased albino koi swordtails, but was wondering if they need to go quickly or no hurry. The tank is approx 90L and the labidos are only about 6-7 cm. I see the real occasional quick nip during feeding but the swordtail then takes shelter away from it. One of the male swordtails have a slight rip on its top fin, but I could have purchased it or it may have been attacked by another male when introduced in the tank. Please help tell me if they need to be moved urgently, they are currently listed on here for offers but a couple of people are interested but can't come up here for a while. I would hate the swordtails t…

I've been having some problems with fish getting attacked in my tank. It started when I brought a new three spot gourami and a male sailfin molly home, and they bit all the fins off my fighter and killed him. So I took the molly back, but after a while the same happened to my male guppy. The other day I bought a new male guppy, and the same has happened to him too. At first I thought it was the three spot gourami, but (after putting him in isolation) when I watch the tank my male sailfin keeps chasing my female guppy with his fin stretched out. I'm confused, because I always thought guppies and mollies are fine together. Could it be because my sailfin is the only m…

Guppy Aids.. Diseases.. or just Defects in the Gene Pool..? Many of us.. not only here, but it seems throughout the world, are having problems with Guppies wasting away and developing bent spines along with other problems. This is more prevalent today that in earlier years... which leads me to believe it is not what we seem to believe. The scaremongers and those that could not define an explanation for this were soon to attach various names to the problem, including Guppy Aids.. and Wasting Disease. Like many, I don’t have a one-hundred percent qualified answer to this problem, and can only tell others about my own situation. About a year or so back I had cle…

What is likely to be the problem if a guppy has still born fry? A larger %age of the fry are coming out dead than alive and it has happened on previous births for her as well.

Well, as some of you already know, I have been able to get my hands on 8 female Albino guppies. (I have however been unsuccessful at getting any males) These are the best photos that I can get from a downward angle into breeding nets (their temporary homes while I sort out my breeding corner) with a pxt cell phone. This is 7 of my 8 girls. And another pic of them in case that one didn't work. This is my largest female and the male I'm trying to outcross with. And another pic of the same to give you a better look at the male. And this is my nearly set up breeding corner. (Platty breeding tank at the back with light on.) Will update here as to …

  16. Had a silly idea... of posting a number of photos & doing the what flavour is that thing. The sort of thing I had in mind was if for example each picture posted have the opportunity for people to submit what flavour they'd class it as. Take a list of classes/flavours (with photo) & do a most desired list which could have more added as people come up with new fishes. Would be nice to perhaps have 2 lists one international class & one NZ class. Something along those lines anyways maybe just a silly idea. Any thoughts? Not sure how to make that work on a website as yet but it shouldn't be too hard maybe its just a silly idea.

  20. How long until you can confidently identify a platy's gender? Of our 4 young platties, I'm confident that one is a male - definite Gonopodium (sp?), and pretty sure another is a female - definite triangle anal fin. However with the other two I'm not sure, the problem is that their anal fins are being carried close to the bodies, like a gonopodium (sp?), but on close inspection still look to be fins? Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Wade

Hi everybody, my name is Matthew, I am based in Wanganui. I am setting up 2 small tanks to breed tropical guppies, I am hoping to try my hand at line breeding, in my own small way. I would like to buy a trio of a nice line, at a reasonable price, anything considered. Any help would be much appreciated as I do not have any guppy breeding experience or know of any local guppy breeders.
