DennisP
Considered it. It'd have to be 1 BIG A$$ eruption to 1, break through the waters surface, and 2, hurl rocks etc over the port hills. Not saying its impossible, just if if it had that much pressure built up, it would have blown after the first shake.

antwan
Starting up again... had a few last night and then a decent one just before that sent me springing out of bed to the big tank, just lost a bit of water but no casualties. bdspider
This happens whenever I clean all the drips down between the back of the tank and background. Sucks for shops to lose biggest day of year.
Jennifer
I was standing right next to my stands, lots of shaking and sloshing but otherwise all ok. Again, very happy to still have power. Shout out if you need help with anything folks.
Adrienne
glad to hear you are all okay. we were having a discussion about the quakes seemingly having stopped yesterday as hubby and daughters were in chch from 17th - 24th and didn't feel anything. Jennifer
They are right under the central city today, I read in the paper that they think there could be another fault that is getting active. The council is issuing a temp state of emergency. The malls were evacuated as was the Southern Encounter aquarium. Power outages too. DonnaM
I've had things thrown out of cupboards today...havent had that before...even in the 7.1. So much depends on where you are located in relation to the quake...and today they're just down the road from me :tears: Lots of water sloshing about and onto carpets, but nothing too un-manageable....just un-nerving.... dcase
We were in Ballantyne's at 10:30 when it struck ... it was terrifying, walls & pillars moved, things strewn everywhere over floors, no lights, we were glad to get out of there. Now see the Guthrie Cente (next door) is structurally damaged and Ballantynes is going to need Engineers to assess it's safety. At Westfield Mall Riccarton, Farmers & DickSmith had roped off areas where part of the ceilings had fallen in. Felt like way more than 4.9. dcase
Was about tanks had home in Prebbleton but when we got home found everything ok there - it appears quake & aftershocks were centred under Chch city.

Trilobite
Haiti was a 7.0 event and is still having low magnitude 4 aftershocks approx each month. Baja was a 7.2 event and is also still getting magnitude 4 aftershocks approx each month. I dont think we will be getting rid of our aftershocks just yet but they will fade away eventually. supasi
Bet that wine Isle stank for ages. I used to work at a wholesaler and when we had a single shelf collapse of red wine the warehouse was stinky for about a month. I am amazed there is still wine bottles still standing on the shelves.
