  1. You won't get spammed if you don't post your email address on forums etc (pm is ok) or join random mailing lists etc. Spam goes to the spam box, you don't have to see it. I've had my yahoo since I was 13 & never had excessive spam (hotmail on the other hand... ugh) Liam's strategy is good too, I have an email for personal (yahoo), and an email for when I need to sign up for stuff (hotmail) and an email for CTT (gmail) and a uni email!
  2. Take it anyway, if it's scared of everyone, it will just hide when there's a flat inspection. I want it!
  3. I vote fire. It's so much nicer & warmer & cosier and heats more of the house (we have both). I love how it warms you instantly if you've been outside. & still works in earthquake and/or snow induced power cuts!!!!
  4. Caryl, try using http://www.totallytanked.co.nz/turtle-rescue/ until http://www.turtlerescue.co.nz is set up properly. There's no content on that site.
  5. I used to think I could do away with landlines until the earthquakes... If you are without power due to a natural disaster, imagine how crap it would be if you couldn't contact family to check they were ok. (the mobile networks were very flakey and not reliable enough.. some txts took hours to go through and calling was impossible)
  6. Though they still need to be credited generally.
  7. Did you take the photos yourselves or did you find them online? Cos it's not really ok to steal other people's photos without asking/crediting, especially for commercial purposes.
  8. When: Sat 4th Feb Time: 5pm onwards Where: Donna's house in Spreydon. PM for exact address. Backyard BBQ at Donna's house. It's a lovely relaxing place to sit and chat. + meet the turtles & admire their ponds/tanks. Guests, new members, etc, all are welcome. Please bring a bbq suitable food/drink. https://www.facebook.com/events/293206324062044/
  9. "birding" is aka birdwatching, not the same as keeping them as pets.
  10. No damage here but I feel more mentally drained than any other prior quake bouts. Dealing with a screaming 3yo is stressful/heartbreaking.
  11. Sounds cruel. Couriers don't care about 'fragile' stickers on the whole and there's no guarantee that 'this way up' stickers help either... Use http://www.petbus.co.nz/ or http://petcourier.webs.com/
  12. Just wait til you accidentally break something like a clip or the propeller shaft while opening/cleaning it... When you realise what the replacement parts cost, then you will learn to hate Eheim.
  13. Hi all Our Dec meeting will be on Sunday 11th Dec at Spoon's new house for a lunchtime BBQ. Please PM for address (members, check your emails) 12.30pm onwards Please bring a plate of bbq-type food to share. Spoon will be telling us about his marine tank so could be a chance to learn a few things if you've ever considered giving marine a try. New members, guests etc are welcome. Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=300868713277187 Also, on Sunday 4th Dec we are having a bbq outside Bunnings Tower Junction to fundraise for turtle rescue, so if you can spare any time to help with this please let us know. Or just come along to buy a sausage or 2 https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=303166439693950
  14. I was reading up on them and apparently painted shells aren't cool, ie if bits chip off then the crab eats it they can be poisoned. But yes, I loved how the crabs all seemed to be wearing striped shells whereas the polka dot ones were all uninhabited... Crabs with fashion sense!
  15. The public aquarium there is pretty cool. I stumbled upon an awesome reptile shop near the markets, don't know it's name though... All I remember it was downstairs, across the road from the giant markets in the main city area. The museum is worth a look if you like spiders and insects. And inside the main central mall, it's worth going to that petshop in the evening, purely cos it's the only one open in the evening... to see the hermit crabs being all active and fun! Wish we could get them here.
  16. My flatmate was telling me about someone she knows who took their cat to Aussie with them... It got bitten by a snake within a week and they had to spend another $3000+ (iirc) to get it tested to see what type of snake, then pay for anti-venom etc etc... If you have pets in Aussie, keep them indoors I reckon!
  17. When: Wed 16th Nov Time: 7pm onwards Where: Hendrikje's house, South Brighton (please PM for exact address) Please bring some sort of small finger food etc for a light supper. New members/guests/visitors from other clubs always welcome.
  18. Lol, sorry about the worms but love the drawing... It's clearly a fighter guys, + she breeds fighters.
  19. http://www.hotcodedesigns.co.nz You could email Amanda, she's in our club, made our website. She makes it so you can update it yourself, anytime, as easily as posting on a forum. Dunno what she charges, and not sure how busy she is atm though.
  20. First step is to take her to a vet to make sure something is not physically wrong. If not, cats often do this if they are stressed or upset, ie if there's been a recent change. Maybe the baby? Do a Google search, there's heaps of info about this type of problem on the internet.
  21. The Pet Expo is heaps of fun to do, I helped with the CTT stand which had a beardie in it... People loved him! Everyone was commenting on how cool/handsome he was, got heaps of attention (Probably moreso than the fish, + easier to setup his tank!) I won't even start on how popular Donna's turtles were... Fully recommend Welly people doing this. Are the local fish clubs doing a stall?
  22. That's so horrible, especially about the lady losing her job! Contact Campbell Live or something.
  23. Facebook link:http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=239881032729694
  24. Bump again... Auckland club got heaps of help & interest in their stall... Come on Chchians, prove we are as cool as the Aucklanders!
  25. Dates: Sat 1st & Sun 2nd October Times: 10am-5pm Where: Pioneer Stadium (75 Lyttelton St, Spreydon) Prices at door:Adults $12, Seniors & Students $10, Under 16 years $7, Under 5 years Free Family Pass (2 Adults/Seniors & 2 Under 16) $31 (If anyone want's to help with our stall, we'll get you in for free) Christchurch Totally Tanked & DonnaM's Turtle Rescue are having a joint stall this show, so anyone planning on visiting, make sure you say hi to us! Last time we did the expo, it was heaps of fun. Was a bit of hard work at times, but very satisfying to see our stalls come together & see all the amazed faces! (especially due to the giant gourami we had on display!) If anyone wants to get involved and help showcase our hobby to the public, let us know! For the actual show, we're thinking of having 3 shifts: 9.30-12, 12-2.30, 2.30-5 and need people to help man the stall. You don't need to be an expert but we need: Turtle-sitters (make sure turtle's aren't escaping or being picked up by the public, direct questions towards Donna/other turtle experts) Fish-minders (hand out CTT business cards, answer fish questions if possible, or direct to someone who does, make sure people aren't tapping glass etc) Pm me expressions of interest & shifts/days that suit best. Setupwise, we get Thurs night & all of Friday to do this and are looking for people to help put up posters, make stalls look good, move/fill tanks & ponds etc. Anyone keen to help with this is also much appreciated.
