  1. Yes, I have several of the Marina Hang-on breeding box large 2L $19 and small, 1.2L $11. I also have a hatchery net box $10 and the floating plastic boxes $7-5. I can ship but I will have to figure out costs. Edit: I have about 20 brand new blue airstones 50 cents each, still in packaging
  2. I'm going through a breakup and moving house and am having to clear out all of my breeding setup. I have heaps of stuff, all good quality, good condition, and relatively new. Approx 15 beautiful pieces of hardwood that were all purchased through the shops $10-50. Jager heaters 50-150w betwn $20-40 (depending on size), about a dozen different T8 light hoods of various lengths (single tube and double tube) most are under 3 years old and have original boxes, prices are 45% of retail. Ten 40 x 40 cm cube tanks $25 each. Breeding equipment like fry tanks, artemia cysts, air pumps, Eheim internal filters, and a Fluval external filters, sponge filters, thermometers, filter media. Also giving away things like different types of gravel and sheets of polystyrene. Some marine stuff. If you are looking for something, I just might have it so please send me a PM. I'll list on here for a week and whatever doesn't sell, I will itemise and list on TM.
  3. Cam, I figured out the 100L/m would do up to 1000 litres (in 12 separate tanks). I was looking into a system like this: http://www.swisstropicals.com/filtratio ... lter-shop/
  4. After some research I found that this was was substantially quieter and does 100L/min (compared to the 60L/min of that one above). http://www.hailea.com/e-hailea/product3/HAP-100.htm It's about $400 though...
  5. sorry I didn't see this until now, would have been happy to help Tracy!
  6. Yes, turn off the CO2 and stop feeding and fertilising during the blackout. The blackout should solve the cyano problem too so you won't need erythro unless it keeps coming back.
  7. I officially hate whiptails. As per usual, a 1 day old spawn of around 100 turned up about 30 dead this morning. The last spawn I reared to selling age with hardly a single death. It's like every other spawn dies. :dno:
  8. Those plants all look like they are starting out, not big and vigorous growth. They won't be using up many nutrients yet. If I were you, I would reduce the lighting (photperiod or intensity) a bit until the plants get established. The increased CO2 will help prevent more staghorn from growing but it won't get rid of the stuff still in the tank. You'll have to remove the effected bits, a 3 day blackout can help by killing it on the wood and stuff but the plant leaves will still need to go. As far as the cyano goes, if you have been battling it for a while, it is probably well established and even good flow and careful control of waste will have a hard time eliminating it so I would recommend a dose of erythromycin. That can sometimes throw things out of whack a bit so that you get brown dust 'algae' but at least that is self limiting!
  9. Awesome, thanks Ryan. I was planning on plumbing it with irrigation tubing to source all the tanks but I was trying to avoid dealing with housing it outdoors. I might try the pond pump. Thanks for the tip about it.
  10. Ugh, that puts me off a bit. I guess I will avoid the Hailea due to noise. The two Eheim ones are the biggest I could get and they still aren't really enough - but they are quiet.
  11. I am looking at a large airpump to replace a couple of Eheim pumps that run several breeding tanks. There are about 14 tanks and around 1000 L. These are the two options that I am looking at: http://www.pondone.co.uk/airpumps.php (around $300) http://www.hailea.com/e-hailea/product3/ACO-328.htm (around $200) It is indoors so I don't want it too loud. A little out of my depth here - any advice/suggestions/alternatives?
  12. The August 2013 digital issue of the Aquarium World Magazine can be accessed at this link: http://issuu.com/fnzasaw/docs/aquarium_ ... ugust_2013 Digital subscriptions are free to affiliated members. Throughout 2013, editions will also be free to non-members but from February 2014 onwards, the subscription for non members will be $20/year. Printed editions are $50/year. Enjoy!
  13. A pair should be ok in there Sam. They are surprisingly cute. See my article in the upcoming Aquarium World Magazine! lol
  14. I bred hundreds of these and would house no more than two males and two females in a 3 foot tank. They need about 45 square cm of floor space as territory for each male, and plenty of shells to choose from. One male can have more than one female but the females need some territory as well, especially when they are guarding a brood. These fish need stable water conditions, high pH, hard water and slow acclimatisation. They are really cute and super fun to watch though, just mind their surprisingly sharp teeth.
  15. It looks fantastic. With that setup, how much harder would it be to have a floor to ceiling tank? :bggrn:
  16. This thread has been closed as it deals with the potential sale and distribution of an ornamental fish species that is not approved under the MPI Import Health Standard. MPI have taken action to stop the sale of this fish by the importer and retailers.
  17. Coolio! I fly back on Thursday evening and have a fish vet medicine webinar I was supposed to attend at 9.30pm, but I am sure I can get out of it. You are welcome to stay in my guestroom and I can show you around whenever it suits you. Riccarton mall is a must for your list, it isn't really walking distance but the Orbiter bus goes in a circuit to all the malls in Chch. You might like that. :lar:
  18. It is legal for a meeting to have observers who are not members. The only parliamentary procedure that needs to be adhered to is the quorum of current voting members and following the FNZAS constitution if the club does not have it's own constitution.
  19. Damn, I was going to offer you a place to stay and a personal tour guide but I will be in Dunedin on Weds and Thurs. Would have been good to see you again. Living Reef is awesome but only open on weekends. Organism and Redwoods are good places to go though. We no longer have a public aquarium but the Antarctic Centre is supposed to be pretty cool (I haven't been there yet even though I have lived here for 11 years...). You'll like Riccarton Mall though and there's a great Japanese restaurant next door named Cookai.
  20. Red pine and green pine do best in high tech tanks. Here is more about the name: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20682
  21. Good one Paul! For those who have been thinking of joining a club but don't like meetings, or those who feel that social gatherings are just too creepy, this is a great club to get involved with. It is all online, and the new group can make it into something really cool. We need to keep an online club going but it needs to have no politics, just fun stuff.
  22. Ceratopteris thalictroides (Indian fern) works very well for that type of tank.
  23. You get what you pay for IMO. Digestibility of the protein has direct correlations with health and longevity so I only feed JBL and fresh foods.
  24. Nah, the male is not old enough. Also, the female will get yellow eggs that you can see through her body, it looks quite different from food in the gut.
