  1. Thanks KK on the button. Can be aggressive as well as sucking onto fish. Not long is my guess. Good choice too. Alan 104
  2. Qik answer NOTHING Woops!! yes there is, they are spelt differently, just a name change. Alan 104
  3. Don't go near the Chinese Algae Eater, (CAE) they should be banned. Almost useless at algae control and as they get older get into real bad habits. SAE is the one to go for, the black line goes right through his tail to the "V"; I'm sure someone will put up a pic or direct you to where you can find one, and also give you the scientific name. Alan 104
  4. Oh yes you can. Cut from both sides then split, and run a blade along the membrane Just don't try to cut hardened glass tho, makes a helluva mess. Alan 104
  5. Not quite, there is one I'd like to get called(oldname) Cynolebius nigripinnis, last seen at a fish show held by the NZKA. It was stated that young ones were held by the presenter, but I've seen nothing of them. I fear the worst but hope I'm wrong. They are a killie that can take LOW temps, having survived at one of our NZKA member's place, outside, at Wellington, through winter, in a water butt. I'd love to see them resurface in the near future. Alan 104

    Leopardfish

That post was a year old!!! Leopard Fish = phalloceros caudomaculatus Just saves anyone having to follow that link put up so kindly by Hands. Alan 104
  7. The two triangles cancel out one another. The main tank part is 74.664 lts., .610 x .255 x .480 x 1000 = 74.664 the front section is 43.608 lts., .495 x .480 x .105 x 1000 = 24.948 Total = 99.612 Total is 100lts. rounded off. Alan 104 Woops just fixed it with an edit. Al
  8. The fish on TM at the moment are from a NZKA member. You should be able to figure it out for yourself whom it might be. I have some of those "rare" ones, or read, you "don't get them in the shop ones" Have to start putting some up myself. Now I am coming to realize what you are supposedly, designated to do Wok. That was always one of my aims to be able to get an organiser into the stronger killie areas and have them meet up. Better than just a once a year trick. Goodluck with your efforts too. Alan 104
  9. They are supposed to be okay, but I didn't see much improvement in my 1.2 tank but then they may have had too much to make it showup. Alan 104
  10. Don't get it from the LFS, get it at a hardware store like Mitre 10 or Bunnings. Prolly about $14 for a 300gm tube and you'll need one of those applicating guns. But they are cheap and always handy to have around the house. Just made another tank this arvo, and I think about two weeks ago, another 8 for Aquanut. I used Dow Corning - - - 480 - - - Glass Sealant Acetic Cure Alan 104
  11. Saw it in the weekend, and it hasn't grown much at all. No gender difference is noticeable. Tim did say that IF it got big enough, But I can see where you are coming from tho Luke. The way it is growing I'd say at least another year. Alan 104
  12. Lucky we have ppl like Caryl and Alan as well as a host of similars then isn't it? Alan 104
  13. Haven't seen one that has gone with that request. And I definately don't mind. Alan 104

    ID Please?

You're right on all of those Caryl. Meany answering so many of them at once tho. And it's under some rockwork too. Alan 104
  15. If it needs resealing in several places as you say, strip it all down and rebuild the whole unit. If the glue has gone in some areas, then the rest is not too far behind. Use acetic cure silicon for any repairs or the rebuild. Alan 104
  16. What specie of fish is it Radu?? Alan 104
  17. Called in to see 2fishy at Animal Antics today and she had her day off. Yep, they have JF in there, but only females, didn't see a single male. Also called into Living Waters, they have a similar problem with their JF but they did have ONE male. Hurry if you want it though. They have a good breeders setup of them, five females (I think) and one male. Alan 104
  18. Rogan has it, I mean the right info. Separate the fish and don't worry about any treatment. I have had dropsy in some of mine and anything done was a waste of time. Youth-in-Asia shouldn't be off the list either. Alan 104
  19. If you get one of those "flip-flop-flap" traps from Bunnings, they'll get caught alive, then you can do your own filming. Use peanut butter, the mice love it, clik Alan 104
  20. Welcome back Eric. Alan 104
  21. I know meat is a tad costly these days, but I think that if you put a raw steak in there, you may have the leeches latch onto that. Similar to snails and lettuce leaf method of catching snails. Another method takes me back well over 50 years when we use to go frogging, and get them onto our legs, but remember to remove them using a lighted cigarette if you use this method. No, they don't hurt. Agree with Ira, gardencentre was where you got them I'd say too. What sort of plant were they? Next time, give the plants a salt or alum bath before putting them into your pond or tank. Alan 104
  22. They are about 20 times bigger than killie babies and they eat BBS at hatching time. Yep, go the BBS for the livebearers. Alan 104
  23. You mean to say that you are feeling thin then???? Alan 104
  24. Good one KA, now you just have to raise them. Have you taken Mum out yet?? Alan 104
