  1. She could crosswise, tankstand to tankstand. Legthwise above the tanks between walls. All things are possible, sometimes. Alan 104
  2. You don't turn off the filter ever, except to clean it, then you use tank water to clean the filtration media and/or sponge. Alan 104
  3. K-A, make sure you have those stands earthquake proofed by fastening them back to the wall. I've experienced the "87 EQ and know what can happen if you don't. And you live in Napier. Alan 104
  4. Go to your local fish club and trade her in for someone that appreciates the finer points of life. Oh by the way!! Welcome to out site here in the Shaky Isles. (had another last night, 4.3 boom, and it was all over) Alan 104 ps. that's an earthquake I was refering to, too. Al

    BBS

Now I consider myself a bit of an expert on hatching BBS. Last night I went to fed my killies their daily chow down of BBS only to find instead of a million of the little fellas, that they had disappeared into an orange cordial coloured mass in the bottle. I have been doing this for yonks, three tspn of eggs into 225ml softdrink bottle with three cups of salt water, and very heavy aeration. I have no idea what happened, and the fish were not impressed at all with their diet of micro worms for eening snack time. Quickly set up another bottle, but the fish wont have that now till tomorrow morning I would think, but I'll check the hatch late this arvo. Any ideas? Has it happened to you?? Strange. Alan 104
  6. Looks like ya got two tanks now. That's good, remember what quaranting is now. Alan 104
  7. Yeah Wok, you're pretty high. How come you never put your hand up for President?? You would have been real high then. Alan 104
  8. Oh! It I wouldn't be Alan if I didn't suggest killifish, but then you have to have friends in high places to get some usually, unless you get the run of the mill ones from the LFS. Alan NZKA 104
  9. You haven't said what your filtration is yet. You'll need that up and going for the cycling to commence, a few fish ( that's why I said 6 neons, you can build the numbers up later.) or a small piece of raw meat to start the ammonia off, forget about Cycle or anything else like that, it IMHO is all so much cr rubbish. Check the locals on the forum for plants and fish. You should be able to get WCMM at about $1.50 from them. Better than $5 plus from a shop. Alan 104
  10. Don't know what size the tank is, but this is how I cut my glass and glue it. Tank size 1.200 Long x .600 Wide x .450 High Base 1.2 x .600 Front and back 1.2 x .450 Ends (Width of base less the thickness of the front and back panels) x .450. Also allow 1mm per joint, the panels should all then end up level with the edges of the base, all going well. So if you were using 6mm glass the sides would be .450 - 12mm - 2mm = .436 Make sure that you use acetic cure silicon, and watch the ventilation while using it. Hope this helps. Alan 104
  11. You don't say how far away the little lady's birthday is. If it's a month or so, try and set it up at a mates place with half a dozen neons to get it cycling. Then present it to her on her B/day. Otherwise it could be a joint effort, set it up with her on the big day, you could speed things up by having the water in buckets, aged and warmed, but do the fish thing REAL slow, otherwise you will end up with deaths. You could take her shopping at the local LFS, and say go for it, BUT $$$$. Or do out a gift certificate for her, give a copy to the LFS and give her a B/day that way. Happy B/day to her any way. Alan 104 ps. Where in Auk are you. If you are over the 'Shore, then there is a real good club there that I'm sure would help if necessary. Also Wok is involved in another club in West Auk I think. Al
  12. Hi Aaron, any other albino in the tank?? The normal albinos available are the Paleatus and the Aeneus. I haven't heard of any albino sterbia in NZ, but that doesn't mean there aren't some here. Is it possible that yours could have crossed with an albino in your tank?? Please fill in the gaps. Alan 104
  13. The cost is GST inclusive Alan 104
  14. Did you stipulate pairs? I was at a Tauranga shop that had got in 10 of them, and only two were males. Each time I go in I offer to take the females for cost plus 10%, but I haven't had a bite yet. Last time I was there, they still had 6 girls. Ideal for my breeding scheme, but not for selling to "Joe Public" Alan 104
  15. I have run out of tins for sale. But then, if you were a member of the NZKA, I know where you could get some from. Alan 104
  16. Yes and no Deep and coarse. I use an airline, straight, with a real tumble going. You can't let the eggs settle to the bottom except at feed time. Alan 104
  17. Hi Keri Anne, I have a pump that looks just the same as that one, just a different breed. My advice is to throw away the "T" connection, and run a garden hose or similar around your tank setup. From this, you run down smaller, about the same as airlines, thru a control, tap or simmilar to each tank. You can take more than one tank connection from each bleeder, and go to a gang valve, and then to your different tanks. I made my ring pipe so it connected up to a T and formed a complete circle. Hope that's understandable. Where did you get the pump and what was the cost. A friend is thinking of doing a fishroom and was enquiring after pumps of a similar one to yours?? Thanks Alan 104
  18. Just don't go to slow or you'll come fifth!! Alan 104
  19. As in salt dissoved in water till you can't dissolve any more. In other words, a saturated solution. Leave it 24 hours in the bottom and occassionally wash the sides. As Caryl says, wash well when finished. Alan 104
  20. 2 pieces of 150 x 50 pine, straight as, clear of knots. 4 concrete blocks, 400 x 200. 1 blanket to disguise the above, a sheet of polystyrene to go under the tank, left over can go on the back to help prevent heat loss. You now have the necessaries for a tank stand. Double or treble up the blocks to suit the height. Alan 104
  21. Hazel will have to write an application from the T club to join the FNZAS, to Hazel, so that she can get it around the other FNZAS clubs. Alan 104

    L shape tank

My page doesn't have "GALLERY" at the top !!!! Alan 104
  23. Put your application in asp Sha so as the Sec can notify the other clubs. Just a little bit of mumbojumbo that has to be done. Don't think that you are soon enough to have members of your club at the conference but Jane and Hazel will be there. Tell them to wave your flag. Alan 104
  24. Lucky I got in touch with the NZKA Sec and checked it out for you Rogan. Alan 104

    Wanted glass

Don't know what size you are talking of here Mitch, but my "recycle side" comes thru and I'd suggest going to your local recyclers and getting an old Kent fire or similar or a micro wave oven and salvage the window out of it. Heat resistant and all that. Just a thought and a lot cheaper than $140. Alan 104
