  1. and do you really think it is going to sit their with that stupid smile and not have an ulterior motive?? Rig some thin fishing line over the pond.It stops them from doing the DIVE. Alan 104
  2. Separate them mate. They are too good a meal to miss out on. Just like guppies. I had to move quickly the other morning when a hen dropped hers in an icecream container. Alan 104
  3. And then you only get those three items when you have added fish or some other pollutant. Like fish food or a piece of steak or a shrimp etc. Also you could do it chemically and add ammonia. All the above you have to have your filtration system working. Alan 104
  4. If it is triangular, just do L X B x H then halve it. If it's not triangular, you'll have to give us the measurements. Alan 104

Caryl, you have the perfect setup down there for the biggies. Use a solar panel and circulate heated water through you pond, or use a heat exchanger. Down there you'd only need it for eight months of the year. Alan 104
  6. Ummmmmmmmmmm!! This is about poly thickness, not MF thread. Please start another thread on that. Thanks. Alan 104
  7. They were starting a club out East, but I think that fell thru. Why not get in touch with the very fine gentleman who wrote the first post in this thread, I'm sure he'll help in what ever way possible. Alan 104
  8. Auck is a fairly large city. Where in Auck are you? We can then point you in the direction most suited to your needs. By the way, you are making a wise decision. Alan 104
  9. Location:- 20 km north of Kerikeri Focal depth:- 5 km Richter magnitude:- 3.5 I didn't think Nthland got any eq's This was just very recent. I have had fish change tanks in the '87 EQ that we had. Only lost two tanks, but there was HEAPS of spillage and mess and tank tops broken. Also the lights sitting on the top didn't survive either. Rather traumatic day for this aquarist. Alan 104
  10. I know that the Melanistus is and has been imported into NZ. But I have not heard of the other. I'd go for the Melanistus but then it could have been what they call a side-catch. Alan 104
  11. Polyurethane will break down Caryl The isinglas forms a clear coating of a glass like covering. I'd suggest a couple of coverings. Second coat a day later than the first. I think it is used in home brewing as well. Alan 104
  12. Then to protect it from bleaching and decaying or eroding. Get some isinglas (spp) It use to be used for preserving eggs. We used it when building cowsheds and put it in the milk spill area on the floor. Milk eats concrete really easily and it protected it from that etching, so it should protect your fish. Use to get it from the hardware store. Alan 104
  13. Caryl, what is this fish that Jude procured for you made of?? Alan 104
  14. I personally see nothing wrong with giving your own experience of what actually happened to you in a shop. Don't give opinions. For instance, last time I went to Auck., I went out of my way to drive all the way to Silverdale, to call into a shop there. It is a large shop but didn't have many customers, but it appeared to have an abundance of staff who preferred to chat amongst themselves. But after spending more than half an hour in the fish area with no one coming forward, I decided I'd go back to Albany where I was welcomed while looking at their shop. Next time, I know where I won't be going, but I hear there is another shop not far from there tho. Alan 104
  15. Even Guppies eat their fry. I know. I played find the babies first, this morning. If a fry will fit into a bigger fishes mouth, it will try to get it. Cover is possibly the best without using traps or, like me, remove the fry. That's a sure way of saving them. Alan 104

    Hello

How come you gave him a SMILEE on his feedback on TM, for a tank only 2/3ds the size it should have been?????? Alan 104
  19. One word on your tank design before you start. Make the back and ends higher than the front. This way you can do a lot more "out of water" aquascaping. Also you could put a top on it, say it's 900mm high, and believe me, some plants will get that high under the correct conditions. It could then be closed in the front with sliding doors. Those in the BoP will recall a tank that Living Waters had. Little waterfall even coming from the raised stone work at the rear of the tank. Alan 104

    Posing Cory.

Well that's something this Irisher doesn't need. Education on making real kewl pics Thanks for sharing Conaquavict Any clearer and I'll be doing water changes of my puta monitor. Alan 104
  21. I use glass dividers and clips that I designed that clip over the top of the back, the front, and the divider. So that's two clips. Also, to baby proof the divider I use airline split lengthwise on the front and back edges of the divider, and if there is no gravel in the tank, along the bottom as well. Alan 104
  22. Trout are not a whitebait species. As trout have to be of a legal size to take, you will find yourself in trouble. But hey!! What the heck. You'll need COLD water, plenty of rom, and high oxygen content. So I personally wouldn't give them a crack. Alan 104
  23. Sure she'd win one section at least Wok. Alan 104
  24. I'd go for it being a male too. Maybe a late developer that knows what to do. Alan 104
  25. How deep is the water with Dad and the kids in?? Have you removed the female yet?? If not, do so, as she will become a target to the males defensive aggression. Alan 104
