  1. Sorry to burst so many bubbles, but ramshorn snails do eat plants. I have some at the moment with just stalks of indian fern left in their container. I have also seen cabomba bowled by them They also looooooooooooove fresh lettuce leaves. It is actually my choice of trapping them using lettuce. Alan 104
  2. What mesh are you looking at Brian?? Alan 104

    hello

Hi Brian from Auckland, large city that, what part of it are you from. Welcome to the FNZAS forum, sure you'll find lots to ask and reply too. There are several FNZAS clubs that are situated in Auck., and depending on what area you are in you may want to join one. Alan 104

    Tonic salt

If you are just wanting to set it up for mollies, they are perfectly ok with straight sea water. My friend had some in his marine tank and couldn't stop them from having babies. If they have babies, that is a sure sign of them being happy. Alan 104
  5. You won't find Endlers in NZ. I have spoken with an importer, and asked him to bring some in , but I'm afraid I was not successful in convincing him on the profitability of the venture. It would have only meant, on more tank to Q them in. The Importing of them into NZ would have had negilible cost as they would have come in with other fish in the order. Maybe next time huh?? 6. Take off the bottom with it's repair and bang on a new base. Shoulsd be okay as long as the leak wasn't from a glue failure. Alan 104
  7. 6gm. isn't much. Work out the cost per gm or ounce for a comparison of other prices. The smaller you get the dearer it becomes. Depending on how much you are using of course depends how long your supply lasts for. In my opinion, a lb tin is the way to go, and if stored in a refrigerator will last almost indefinately. By the way, I don't have any for sale at the moment, but the NZKA have tins for members only. What are the breeds of killies have you got?? Alan 104

    Hi All

Aren't all Ozzies close together?? Welcome Corms Alan 104
  10. There is a lot in the Rotorua area sitting on the bottom of the lakes, and Taupo too. Alan 104
  11. What are you using cycle for unless you have a surplus of money that you wish to spend?? If so, send some this way. It'll just cost the amount you send. Alan 104
  12. Use a money card to scrap them off and catch them in an ice cream container. They'll hatch ok in that, if you leave them in a net they'd prolly become part of a fish's diet, or it'll try too anyway. Alan 104
  13. Kewl Ammo All the best for FNZAS's latest baby Alan 104
  14. Can be in the right circumstances. Alan 104
  15. Don't worry about the feeding block. Just make sure that the tank is not overstocked, and well fed in the weeks leading up to your absence. Make sure your water changing and tank management is up to date before you go. If you have a well planted tank and not overstocked, I reacon you could do a month away without fear. Temperature and filtration is really the only concern, depending of course, on the fish. Don't add any more fish 2 weeks prior to your vacation, they may be ill and may not show till you are away. About the only thing you'll have to consider is your filtration, and your air supply to the tank. Maybe train up someone that can check out these while you're away, and show them how to fix ANYTHING that may go wrong, set your lights up with timers. If you belong to a club, this can be an excellent source of aid. What goes round sorta thing. If you are using a relly or neighbour, leave the phone number of an aquatic friend that is prepared to help this way. Alan 104
  16. My deepest condolences to your club and especially to Val's family. I know what it is like to loose a stalwart of a club, and a friend. Throw in a handful of petals for me Mitch. Thanks Alan NZKA 104
  17. Mine arrived today. Thanks Caryl, sterling effort again. Some real good reads too. Caryl, you are PM'd. Alan 104
  18. You prolly didn't see it's tail, so if you have only the trio in there you may have babies. When did you put them in, like, how long have they been together in there. They normally don't hop along either they can swim as long as it wasn't a prem hatching. Use a length of airline to capture it by syphoning. Never heard of trying to NET a baby, in fact if you did get it in, it'd prolly go straight thru the mesh. Often that type of setup is used for breeding Dan, it just means you'll have to wait for the babies to be seen near the surface, and you WILL suffer losses thru the parents having a free meal. Alan 104
  19. If it is for killies Dan that is ok. Jus when you do your vaccing of the tank, put it thru a sieve to catch any eggs that may have been deposited in the gravel. Also provide floating indian fern or riccia for any babies that do hatch, to hide in. Alan 104
  20. Good work Caryl. Looking forward to them both. Now to plan for the next one huh?? Alan 104

A big hi to you all

Welcome aboard Swede. Watch out for MTS, it is contagious if you are a member of this site. Alan 104
  22. Might have a prob pronouncing it if you start off spelling it rong two. CICHLID - - SIC-LID Alan 104
  23. Watch out on TradeMe for some killies. To me some of them are the flashiest fish we have in NZ. You'll have a problem finding them in the LFS, but there are a few staunch breeders of them thrioughout NZ, although thet don't produce like barbs, cichlids danios, or tetras. Only a few eggs a day, then hand raised. Don't really expect to get them too cheaply either. I have seen them vary from $6.50 for the clown killie to $75pr for the king killie, everything in between. Lately some were on TM for $25 a pr., albino gardneri. I have been fortunate enough to have obtained some from a wholesaler, and paid $34 a pair for them, plus GST and transport. So they aren't cheap , but the joy of breeding them then raising them, makes it seem all worthwhile. The easiest way to locate them is through the NZKA. But even then, they are still hard to get. 24. Why didn't you take the discus back to the shop while you got things sorted?? Alan 104
  25. Do you drink it? If so then the fish should be okay too. Store in dark covered, plastic drums before use in the aquarium, that will take care of any greeness in the water. Alan 104
