Some of us use the Hauraki Peat but it it fairly rough tho, sticks and stones. Found out about them when I put it thru the kitchen whizz. I have foud some peat discs at the garden centre, compacted and dried and in a fine net, so that when immersed in water, it absorbs water and swells to about 50mm by 30mm circumference. Almost fine enough to go thru a sieve and leave the eggs behind. If you find these discs, make sure that they have no fert. additions.

I normally use glass marbles, four of them, but I have used large stainless steel nuts to keep the nesting containers on the bottom.

Cleaning out plastic drums/tanks that has had chemicals etc

Use an aquarium and set up a fish or two in them with water that's been in the drum for a couple of weeks. CHEAP fish, just in case. -
In my opinion,it is completely impossible NOT to damage a carpet. I have yet to see a tank removed from an area that is carpeted, in a house, if it's been there for 6 or more months, without the carpet being squashed, and leaving it's (tanks) footprint.

Mystic, just in case you can't find the "T" and "H". Go to the centre of the top line of lettered keys, find "T". Go diagonally down, and to the right, is "H" :roll:

As an chippy, I'd agree with Warren but another alternative is that the hill has started to move. That house would have been built about the "leaky-house Syndrome" time were being built, and we know how much checking was being done then, don't we??

Aaron, normally we have one male to two females, this is termed a trio for obvious reasons. Why we do this is because the male can share his amorous desires with the two, thereby taking the strain from a single, that could get injured, killed, or even forced to escape from the tank if it's not covered completely. Goodluck with breeding them, I'm sure Wok will have explained what you need to know about that fun time of the hobby.

Definately breeders size Carla. Prolly $5 is a fair enough price to ask. When we sell, we work on about 1/2 the retail. Which is normally the wholesale price, or near enough.

Little corner box filter will be fine. As for the escaping during feeding or water changing; it happens to all (EDIT MOST) of us. Get into the habit of seeing how they are enjoying their meal or water change and get a count, after you have put the lid down. Easy to do when you just have a few.
