  1. I just put a bit of beef in the tank and empty most of the water out of it when u are ready for fish.
  2. So what do people think the market would pay for Zebra's. I'ld pay $600.00 each to get a breeding program but don't think there would be that many others that would apart from those on here so what do people think would be a realist price.
  3. Something like that Ira.
  4. Saw one that a guy was breeding gold fish in that just had a pump and then covered in shingle. Worked like a UGF.
  5. Just a note that I'ld like to make is that I find Discus easyer than Neons to keep alive. I have 3 Discus and heaps of Tetras in a tank and if theres going to be a problem with health it will be the Neon first followed by Carbinals next and the rest don't seem to have any problems. Head & tail ligths, Rummy nose, Glowligths, Rams, Corys and Discus all seem to be hardier. Will give up on Neons I think these just to much in breeding now.
  6. Cheers Craig but only plans and info on the Zebra to start with. Haven't looked in to keeping them yet just thinking about it and asking 4 imput. The other one would be a Arowana (sp) so i can get read of any thing needing culling. What shop do u work at, $600.00 was a price mentioned on here about fish at Holly's in Auckland. Price isn't a problem if you can get a return which I was kind of asking. Do you keep Discus, always interested in what Discus are available local.

    Light??

Plants will grow every quickly at 20 hours of ligthand will flower when ligths are reduced to 11 3/4 hours not to good for fish . I have my tanks come on at 7.00am off at 9.00am when room ligthing takes over and back on at 5.00pm and off at 8.00pm.
  8. Cheers Craig. Will have to hunt up some photos on the internet but please to have some where to start. Plan is to have these guys in with a pair of Rams to breed. Once this tank is stocked will only have the Zebra Pleco to sort out. Would start with GBA BN first and then to the Zebra. What is the most people would pay for a Zebra. From other post understand that $600.00 each is the asking price up north but understand that not to many people would pay this. What do people think a fear price is as if I could get a pair breeding would want to sell offspring and at $600.00 each I don't think it would take long exhaust demand.
  9. Looking at getting a pair of Apisto's but don't really know what is available so what are your favourites. Double Reds look good but what else is there.
  10. Don't know what you have in the cold north but can't be much worst than the -2 degrees and snow in Chirstchurch. Try Melafix,Furan 2 produced by Aqarium pharmaceuticals, something to treat fungus should get read of it.

    Australia

Just up the coast at Rockhampton. Well a little way up the coast.
  12. Saw a couple of Balloons (first time in the flesh)in the weekend and can understand your views. Don't think they would last to long in there own tank at best, worst looking than blood parrots. also some Golden rams that seem to be across between Blues and Bolivan in shape and size but gold were the Blue would be. Much better looking fish that can swim normally. Has any one keeped Blues and Bolivans together. Do they get on. Looking at getting 3' tank really to breed these and maybe a pair of Apisto's. Wil see what happens and migth only be able to have 1 pair at each end.

    Help :(

Hay I know how it works as I've been at the same place for 10 years now, But the point is people do get things wrong even if they think they are rigth. Fishy your rigth repeat orders are the best then all you have to do is talk about rugby.
  14. Here i go Bryan yes with the y. I'm MAN 33 going 18 Fish books,History and Non fiction books Rugby, Surfing,Sking etc Girlfriend of 10 years no kids 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 Galah and a Blue and Gold Macaw on the way next year. work car Mitz Gayliant, own Skyline Turbo Same job 10 years sales rep for sawmill First home almost free hold then planning on farmlet so we can get more Parrots All Black of the year has to be Tony Wookcock but could still be better if he wore Red & Black.
  15. Could be good option to take them (fish) out and see if they can do this them selves. Since they are out you need some water flow over the eggs and maybe some thing to reduce the chance of fungus, say M-Green not to much. Heaps more fun to let them do it them selves but migth take a while for them to learn. they will be eating them cause they think something else will so they migth aswell get in first.
  16. Where do u get the Tea tree oil from. Girl friend use to us some to wash her face with but don't think that this would go to good in tank. Garlic also a good anti-bac.

    Help :(

My two bits. Water level at two ends of section will always be the same. Flow is reduced by fraction. Thus pump only (give or take fraction) has to pump over lip of tank or difference between tank water level and highest point of hose. Don't trust rep's, I'm one and if you don't know just act like u do. Just think of filter as being length of hose.
  19. Rory should have said that its a secondary infection of fungus from being damaged. You could also use malafix(sp).
  20. Hi Rory, Had this same problem with first lot. Fins damage in transit or from other fish in tank sorting out dominance. Use Aquaflavine don't worry to much it will go.
  21. Bigger tank= filter taking longer to process extra volume. Brown slime on up take= more ligth hitting it than prevoius tank. I have plenty of this brown slime in/on my Discus tank up take but does'nt seem to effect them. Put a sponge filter in to see what happens. Sorry don't know anything about "rife Lakes" but Herefishyfishy commented in another post that a lot of these guys only eat alge so the slime could be a bonus.

    Mad Discus

Tofigh I started having problems when I move the others out as these guys had paired up. They seem to be happier to be keep in a group even if they are breeding? When i give the tank a clean (weekly) and dont put the plants (poted) back on the SPOT they notice and aren't happy, I'm sure I must have 90% females in tank.
  23. That doesn't look good Fishfishy. Time for some batter.
  24. Just notice a couple of comments about additive like Strees coat and Cycle. I think Stress coat is a good product and containes mostly natural products like Tea tree oil and Garlic. What are other peoples throughs and experiences.
