temp up, salt and Furan for 3 days I think now. May have been that they didn't like the tank as I have found that higher up tanks (say above waste) they are happier. Discus must be the most nervous fish around. Any one else have nutter fish. Got another lot (6X 2") this weekend gone and they are so jumpy, starting to settle now and come up to be feed but any movement and they are trying to swim through glass. Why do u ask. We have a small group that purchase together and help out each other when we can. If you'r locally and need some help y could come around to have a look just PM and I'll reply. Have some one coming around this weekend already.

Funny thing is my brother in Perth gets a feed of Teoroa (sorry about sp but large shellfish looks like big tipee (sp)) about once a month from guys coming back from Southland. Apparently the locals at the Pa eat it all the time and when I've been down at Tuatapere at the pub blokes have it setting in buckets while they have a quick beer then off home to cook them up. No wonder seasons are every 5 years or what ever. NZ the land of two laws.

I never seem to get the flow stated on filters but have read that this is what the pump is rated at and having to push/pull water through filter will reduce this as well as height being pumped to. Leave the water as is it will settle and then y can do gravel syphone or put small sponge filter in tank just to clean it up.

Warren you can only bait in day ligth hours other wise its good by net, car etc. Could try just putting some bait in the tank and see what they turn out like. Bait are differrent from area to area. South island bait is usually shorter and fatter where as NI West coast bait is longer and skinnery. Sounds like its going to be a good season with good catchers around the Catlands, CHCH and early but it wasn't me Greymouth.

From the books I've read its better to have one at each end also a smaller heater will be on more than a larger one so less switching on and off which is usually what fails. The other benefit is that if one doesn't switch off it is only 1/2 the required strenght to heat hole tank so you migth not cook the fish as the other shouldn't come on. The reverse of this is if one fails the other will keep the tank heated. I use this set up for my Discus every thing else has 1. I use 1 watt per ltr.

I only use carbon when setting new tank up as water in CHCH is chem free. I full my filters up with bio balls or cermic noodles with filter floss before and after. Use sponge from old filter in new so you are'nt re starting the cycle with 100% new filter.

Sound abit like what my Discus do when they pair up.

Alan that comment wasn't about you. What I'm saying is there is a lot of info out there and you have to make up your on mind. Posting comment that belittle people is a waste of every ones time. cough cough. I allso dont really care how its spelled as long as I can understand it. Bring up peoples spelling is like calling some one fat/skinny. All I posted was that I disagree with some comments and then had why comments belittled as well as other Discus breeders as bring a different breed??? At no time have I belittle any other post apart from when I've been belittle all I have done is disagree.

I'ld like to make the point that I have told no one that what they are doing is wrong all I have said that there are many people that use beef and don't have a problem about with it. Statments like Cichlids should've be feed Beef is one sided. If the post stated " from what I've read the use of beef is not recommended for rift lake cichlids" but that is not what was posted. Sorry for having a different view. May be you should rigth your own book and every one should follow it a 100%. It must be hard being so rigth about every thing.

I have problems with growing plants in a tank I have 1.0 high. May be only half fill the tank and let plants grom out of water as stated above.

Was there a case studie done on fish feed Beef verse not. Would love to see the results, would be a rest from listening to peoples opinion.

Getting very close, only a little bit of colour left in the body of the male. Eye is black. Didn't think there was much interest in them. Have been trying to get read of them since I started breeding Guppies..

I would have to completely disagree with your comments on Beef Heart and I could well have the backing of most Discus breeders in the world. What trials have you done where are your results. I can look at the results Jack Wattle had in many books and still the results he reached are still beyond most people that keep fish. Facts please not your opinion.

Product called Bio-chem Zorb from www.aquariumpharm.co. Have to say that it sounds like the wood, I have heaps of peat in my tanks and they are quite brown doesn't worry me. See if the above helps, works better than carbon.

Go to vet and ask for Metronidazola, can't remember dose rate but worked well on angels. Any books on Discus should have treatment details.

Plants only need 4 hours ligths off and this will also give best vegative growth and to induce flowering ligth need to be off for 12-1/4 hours don't know about the fish sorry.

Salt with Catfish. I have Cory's and a BN and add salt. Not much about one teaspoon per 10ltr. Is this to much.

Tank looks bigger. Thinking about useing a AR980 for a reef tank but was concerned about it being big enoungh but seeing yours and how well aquascaped it is put my mind to rest. What kind of hardware are you runing on it. MH, Sump, Skimmer, Filter etc

Talking to a rep from the states the other nigth about Discus keeping and how I'm loseing the young once they become free swimming. He said that any thing more than 1xtank volume an hour is more than what Discus like. They can be keeped with more than this but better results with less water movement. Sponge filters or UGF may be better if you could do water changes daily.
