  1. i had a fire eel eating hikari sticks, massivore and ate plenty. but that was very very rare in my experience, but according to HFF roskill, they trained it before i purchased it (my sole reason for purchase was cos of its pellet eating habits:)) anyways, he started it on shrimp first, then put the pellets or a small piece in shrimp, slowly reduced shrimp size and increased pellet size, then eventually just soaked pellets with shri8mp juice and ate pellets, and eventually just eating pellets straight up the growth form pellets is quick, and good, they get VERY thick on massivore. but in say ing that, though i am a MASSIVE advocate for massivore and believe it is the supreme food of the gods - i did not get as fast a growth as i thought i would compared to other fish i had fed on massivore from when i fed my old eels prawn. next time i would jsut feed prawn i reckon. to be honest, save time, and just feed RAW PRAWN NO SHELL, just the cheap raw small tiny shrimp, cut them up into cubes or strips, and feed.... they grow fast on that. NEVER FEED COOKED SEAFOOD. as for getting another, as far as i know, the more the merrier, if you only have 2, some say you MAY get problems, i never found out if its true.
  2. yes, tank water is fantastic, but usually the UV filter from tank water comes with a coal or carbon filter? my sister has one, i like them, its cool but yeha, watch out, may hve to put in some minerals in the water if its ONLY UV, why not?
  3. Also, i we take to nigerias car battery disposal practice, burrying toxic chemicals SHOULD take care of it:D :digH:
  4. I believe they are best dumped in a local river after you break them :slfg: :digH:
  5. their mouths are reallyf unny, but can cause damage if left to rule the tank, its a lucky dip really, try and see.
  6. looks like a green anaconda, a giant one at that. what a shame to kill it! it must have taken decades to get that size!!! i want a pet snake, but i wouldnt buy an anaconda!! whats wrong with small snakes that feed only on insencts and frogs. or even corn snakes:D i used to have a python, was a very manageable size.
  7. Spikes are caused by not enough bio filtration, or overstocked tank. if you have complete cycle then nitrite should spike, usually if your amonia is fine, then nitrite follows very closely to it as it goes hand in hand. but in saying that, maybe you need to increase filtration, reduce fish, reduce feeding. for smaller fish, even .5 amonia can cause massive harm, only large fish can tolerate slight amonia, some fish naturally have a slight tolerance to amonia from their natural environment but in saying that, its nto much, small fish generally are not.
  8. can be agro, i think they are mroe likely to harass fish that they can catch, silver dollars may be too fast, but also silver dollars are bulletproof, they are perfect dither fish. good fish, but yes, does get big
  9. forgot bout the tank pic:D
  10. in theiry yes, but beardies are notorious for being pigs when it sees moving insects. leopard geckos are much more gentle, but try it! its worth having a beardy just for that lol
  11. 3rd pick i believe is a sunshine pleco - small one. i am paranoid getting small fancy plecos, too scared they are stunted from breeders/importers due to stress. but love the cactus! the tail is all red, no black or brown on it?
  12. its not the stocking thats the issue, its the size of the tnak, its filters will no way be able to deal with the spikes of waste plus the volume is low, concentrations will easily get out of hand. its very typical to see this in asia, wonder if this person is asian. as fruju has said, i have seen way way worse.
  13. razor? in acrylic tank? wow didnt know that was advisable. is it true plecos scratch acrylic?
  14. it is indeed, its about 13 to 14 inches i think, it keeps growing, it eats anything that goes into the tank why is that?
  15. if youc an afford the spac ein the tank, a cheap internal is awsome, pick sup a lot of gunk and very effective, cheap to run and cheap to buy. Remember, the money you spend extra on a fluval internal or eheim would be made up quickly by the efficiency of watt usage ... they are beter than cheaper chinese brands. i wouldnt go for an inline, its over kill...
  16. yeah, i know, glass get it too eventually but i found a company that does high light and colour transmission security film, used for high end stores and jewellery stores glass.... but designed to let light and colour through for maximum viewing pleasure. thats cheap, so i will do that outside, no scratches there. but inside im worried bout mag float have a product range for acrylic. just gotta be carefull, i believe the brush is rubber? is that correct?
  17. anyone here used acrylic tanks how do you avoid scratches, is the problem as bad as people say?
  18. acrylic is very cost effective, EXTREMELY in fact. just owndering how to avoid scratches.
  19. to make this footprint? out of fibreglass? wood? concrete even? just wondering:D dreaming but good banter none the less. i am told 15mm is fine, 19mm is better for 15mm, its about $5400, 19mm is $8000 just for the tank ideas? lets throw some juice around peeps!! YEAH!
  20. cool after a few worm feeds, start him on little bits of prawn. my recommendation, unless you dont mind spending big bux on bloodworms.
  21. The pleco discs by hikari is a good general pleco food isnt it? high in fibre and good mix of proteins. but i like the carnivores as my tank is a meat eating tank. i cant wait for this sunshine i have to get huge like that! what a beauty!
  22. yeah, i love plecos though when they reach almost full size, they have this dinosaur look to them
  23. I reckon the L14 in a good large size looks spectacular. i didnt wanna get one small risk stunted spicimens but picked this up froim HFF few weeks back Extremely active, eats like a pig (which i love) look s geat in the dark substrate its about 17 cms.... the other one is nice, i would get it too, but if you HAD to choose one, L14 i reckon
  24. read that before. I think good quality brands are much of a muchness really. in saying that, i have only used discus formula, thera a formula and large fish formula in the past. i still found that HIkari has had the best growth and a more active fish, in terms of colours, my flowerhorn developed way stronger colours after fedding hikari than feeding NLS thats my experience. Massivore to me is the best food i have ever seen in growing and putting mass on fish, NLS has an equivalent food but they dont import it here yet, havent tried that. but i think as long as it is a good quality, it will be a good food. i still personally use hikari, and in fact, use ONLY hikari.
