  1. thanks hoping for more! but cant rush nature, can only help it along lol now untill next winter, gonna put on the weight on this while weather is warm - got plenty of food coming too wiuth locust, then start tanning it maybe march ish. ill do another shoot before then to compare results of pre tanning and post tanning pics, as well as any natural progression before hand its like a science experiment lol
  2. will hae to remember that whats the difference with LDA and L numbers? does it hav an equiv L numbe ror just different? curious. thanks will remember LDA33:D what L is a albino sailfin?
  3. 100% sure, identified by a very exprienced person from HFF, plus i already hvae a 25cm L114 cactus:D very different fish, this one is quite large, that log its using as a home is a 30cm half log ornament. i was gonna buy smaller ones but in the past i found that smaller plecs when purchased at tiny sizes are likely to be stunted, and only a few of them will get to a good size, as in nature, most are runty and picked off when young, only in captivity they actually survive due to our artificial care so when i saw this advertised on here by HFF roskill, i reserved it urgently lol its very active, eating in its second day, now everytime pellet hits the water, it smells it and detects the frenzy, and starts to feed. im training it to come out to the centre of the tank, right now it comes out only close to its home, the L128 blue phantom comes out to centre of the tank now after 1.5 weeks of settling in.
  4. Update of colour development, only will put on the pictures from first photos to photos from today. May 2011 Nov 2011 OTHER SIDE: May 2011 Nov 2011 L128 Blue Phantom L14 Sunshine Big Polka Dot pleco..(Unsure of L number if anyone could educate me) Some more aro photos of arowana doing stuff:
  5. cool i have a 100w bulb on 24/7 in there right now, another batch hatched today. i can see the egg casings on the dirt, more and more by the day. so hopefully i will end up with several hundred. Dragonz/ just pump the heat up, make sure soil is moist but not wet, but getting soil initially wet is fine too and maintaining that moisture, in nature, it downpours and eggs get very wet. interesting too, after some reasearch, locusts fed on grass (assorted species) naturally contain aastaxanthin !! females with eggs have extra beta carotene!
  6. pond filters also usually nee dyou to buy a separate subersible or inline filter to attach to the canister of a pond filter. unless you get a fountain set up, but they dont really filter that well
  7. Eureka! 1 maybe 2 clutches hatched! i believe i will hve a bit of a swarm soon yay
  8. many here would help you you just have to decide what you want. I would help you personally, i like setting up new tanks:d 2.2, what a pleasure that would be!!! i guess the thing is, you have to do some groundwork, find out what you want out of the tank, and then go abouts working on that. discus tank - simple enough, is it gonna be planted? if so then some planted specialists here can help im sure but if its not planted, i can certainly helop you:D just let me know
  9. trout are swallowers and swallow whole, like arowanas, they dont rip chunks off prey i have seen arowanas take down birds in some documentaries.
  10. any cooked meat i dont recommend for eels. espcially cooked seafood, they become tough and hard to digest when cooked. just my experience
  11. All my driftwood is this wood. very good, also they sink rapidly. i kept mine in the sun for a few weeks, then soaked untill sank and put in the sun for another 2 weeks, this loosened u the bark. then put in the tnak after a scrub, the bark is nice, puts a leaf litter type thing in the tank, also the plecs loved dislodging the bark! awesome wood also if you get one with a trunk about 3 to 5 inches in diameter, the root system is very good
  12. yeah, short life is ok, when they hatch, i will taper off the lighting - i just need themt o lay asap so i can start feeding this summer
  13. ok i will try that, pump up the heat i had them hatch lower temps than that in the past though. weird.
  14. I have never tried it but got suggested this. I bought 1cm locusts and just in 2 weeks, they are almost adults, i expect all of them to be adults by mid week to end of week. I feed them 2 times a day, heat/light on 24/7. The growth is extremely fast!! will it affect fertility or will fertility be as fast as their growth? they should start mating by the weekend or next week at this rate..... any feedback? I had lots of them lay eggs in winter - hasnt hatched yet i know eggs can be dorman for up to 3 months, so i stll have another month or so to go but i just wanted to maek sure i have a supply this coming summer of hundreds of locusts. so these guys i will get to breed also. feedback welcome
  15. it is a natural part of their diet in the wild, ANYTHING that goes on the water is fair game to most canivores. really its nothing unusual, but yes, trout in NZ are k nown to 'bloom' and get extraordinarily large when the mice are also in bloom, its when summers are hot and these particular trees produce more nut/berries than usual or something, beech trees perhaps? if i recall. weather your ethics are for or against it, the fish will eat it and it has a benefit to them too. perhaps a boost of calcium and protein.
  16. I wanna know Diet of these things are they carnivores? onmis? or herbs? i can only have catfish that are omnis or meat eaters, saw the ones at HFF roskill WOW WOW WOW! absolutely monstrous, i want one!!! i want i want! butneed to know diet. or if you give me scientific name:D
  17. yes just saw that:D its GOT a new......
  18. yeah, true, not staple diet i guess.
  19. i guess i just wanted it to be like my aqua one thermometer. so i look at that temp, and look at ph, sweet done lol but looks like with a finite life of the probe and sensor, its not that easy, probably better to get a pen type meter and just dip it as i need it ??
  20. will take some when its colour stabilises, i find that it got lighter when stressed lol its eating though after just over night of intro! will take pics soon!
  21. lol is it really fraser? you making fun of me? :slfg:
