  1. I want to know who has the largest borneo tigers here. i want to see who has the biggest in nz. its hard cos some probably dont come here but ill believe that people who will keep truly large fish must love fish and so probably do come here:D well, i am trying to make my borneos huge, the biggest in nz, so iim trying to find out who has the largest to compare lol ok im actually just curious im gonna tape a $5 note on my tank and tank a photo with the borneo tiger beside it so people can get a gauge of the size, i sometimes read that borneo tigers have been found almost 2 foot! true monster! thats my goal
  2. wow crocs? gators? that would b awesome, you would need a large enclosure for that! they are cheap to maintain supposedly. during winter months, they wont eat at all! making them very easy to care for lol i visited a huge farm in south africa 2 weeks ago - they would sell a baby croc very cheaply. i am sure its the compliance costs tat will hit you. zoo permit? mmmmmm how does one get that?
  3. silvers being bred in a tank is not unheard of. but i assume that your other fish will pay for it when they start courting . i fish breederin singapore i met ages ago did it in tanks. he said that he turns the water dark brown and this encourages breeding. but i have never tried it or heard anymore of it. nice fish i want two aros in one tank lol but i hve no spac for anymore tanks so ill settle for one aro
  4. fish have great regeneration capabilities, it will probably straighten up if not, the it wil have a cool war wound you cn say it ought in the great arowana war to liberate its home land.... then everyones like... ooohhhh ....... aaaahhhhhh......... and you will be the man! ...... cough anyways, i think just leave it, unless its a broken jaw, it wont affect it much just cover the over flow
  5. dont sell unless you have to - you always regret it when you sell big fsh lol but, depends on how much someone wants for him i had them before - i did like it but they dont chase down and eat other fish and animals as fun as other fish so i sold it. rarity, well, its medium common now so that novently didnt do it for me but they are awesome fish none the less!! dont sell it! you will regret it lol

    An update

ok,well, i have actually decided to dedicate a tank for my large dats, just 3 of them, 2 dats and angelicus which they leave alone, actually chases them sometimes away from its cave. mystic is right on a point, i risked a RCK, worked out for awhile but didnt in the end, i have asked mfks their opinion, and its 50/50 with large dats we are not talking medium sized, i mean large here in terms of my dats. they seem to be different at that size and not growing up with any other large fish, thats probably why they are like that. so wont risk that anymore, if anything ill try the jardini in there to see what would happen cos the jardini no longer sees the tank as its territory but even that ill have to be weary its ok, i have a spare tank for them and plenty of filters:D i would like that CK from aprohecy though, its still forsale, but i cant buy it untill i set up my big one, and even then i have monsters for that already.

  10. ok, lets say a...... giant gourami i mean just as a general opinion i guess
  11. just wondering, for the MFKs out here, what sort of ratio do you personally abide by when keeping monster fish. example, say the tank depth front to back is 50 cms, what maximum length fish would you put in a 50 cm tank? see, i have seen people say, you can put a fish, and the depth should be 10 - 20% more than its length, some say should be more.
  12. so it de4pends on the turtle so far it seems mostly its 50/50 ok, so prolly best to just put option in ok, keep that in mind thanks
  13. well, i have had red ear, reeves and snake neck, and out of all, the snake neck is the most interesting, i gave them up cos i wanted other things but my love for reptiles, also the fact there isnt any others really to have:D has made me want them again but someone told me, actually from a pet shop, that they dont actually need land area and can be entirely in water. i noticed ages ago that my snake neck NEVER went onto land, and NEVER slept out of water... always just sits at the bottom even though there is land. red ears and reeves definately but snake necks never. is this true? or should i really put land in?
  14. oh ok thats annoying maybe ill just stick to one beardie thent o avoid hassles lol
  15. go to exo terra website its awesome! novelty lol and very cost effective i suggest it for any nz gecko keepers but im having it for my beardie probably outdoor summer then and indoors winter no problems
  16. i know two females will be ok but if i get two males, will they fight? i dont know what mine is currently if i get a baby - it turns out to be male, and mine lets say is a male, will it be ok in a 6 foot b y 76 by 76 cage? or, if mine is a female i get a adult male, is it ok to introduce in this cage and have them live together?
  17. for 500, trade me is the best try your luck, be patient, i found good deals there, i have seen nice 500-700 litres with stand and all stuff included for 500 to 600, sometimes you gotta drive far but hey, its still a whoping deal! or, get your bf to make a steel stand, buy a brand new tank and make a steel stand custom for it becareful to make sure you do it properly and evenly, no room for error i dont think with making own stand. though im told its not rocket science wtih people with the know how, which i dont:D i bought a 1200 litre with stand for 750
  18. what comes out is not harmfull, just unsightly and cleaning your filter after 7 weeks is soon, especially after ust arting it up i havent cleaned my filters for more than 8 months if i find the jet weakening, ill replace some filter wool but generally, filters shouldnt need that much cleaning. the stuff that spews out i dont know what it is but generally , what ever it is, its used to having a constant one way flow, when you turn it off, it disturbs that and dislodges
  19. i would probably trade my kidney for some of them probably............. my right kidney, i like my left one 8)
  20. can i put my beardie outside? to see the winter and summer through? its currently in the garage, during summer i put a warming bulb but during the cooler months, i turn it off to give it a more natural seasonal change can i put this creature outside? i just purchased an awesome flexarium (im curently in south africa) and its half price here to what the cheapest is in nz, i bought an enclosure 6 foot x 76 x 76, its huge! i wanna put it outside so the animal can get natural sunlight and stuff. summer i know it will be ok but winter? do you think i should risk it? does anyone here put their bearded outside int he cold? also, what sort of hiding place and stuff i put in it so it can keep itself warmish during cold nights?
  21. i have a permit costs about 65 dollars you will needd an outdoor enclosure though some inspectors will approve indoors as mine was so long you can prove you have all the things you need outdoor is neccesary. they are made for nz weather, so no worries for cold. if you want a guaranteed, easy no hassle enclosure, go for a exo terra flexarium or explorarium... WOW, i just bought one, currently i am in south africa, they are less than half price here compared to nz, cheap as hell they are perfect for nz geckos, im buying for a beardie set up but you can have them out doors and is perfect for nz geckos
  22. put some long bits of wood so he can climb up to the top of the cage give more depth of the enclosure otherwise you have all that space with nothing and its abit of a waste for such a awesome enclosure
  23. conclusion, no no to tank mates thought id try it this thing is vicious and fun to watch indeed they dont feed much, actually easy to feed you just drop shelled or de shelled prawns, they chomp away. and no need to feed for somtimes up to 5 days, only when they are intersted they will go for food, the rest of the time they will watch it rot, so i dont feed to avoid fouling the water. bt in conclusion, no tank mates thanks guys
  24. hi guys i have a full grown pig nose puffer - i tried putting a gold fish about 30-40% its size, and in one gulp, it slices it in half, cleanly....now, i am thinking of giving this guy a tank mate just a thought though hesitant, extremely hesitant, as this is a rare fish in nz, i dont want anything to attack it, or it to attack the tank mate... any ideas on what sort of fish i can put with a large, fresh watter puffer?
