    sand

For those of you with a fair amount of flow in your tank. What type of sand or arganite do you use. I have some coral sand which is being blown around my tank by my streams and want something that might stay in place for a while

    Sad looking tank

my brother started using carbon in his tank and his mushrooms etc started shriveling up, he removed it and everything came back again. Neither one of us use it anymore
  3. I have 2 yellow tonga, a yellow finger, a kenga(cant spell) and another red leather. When my lights come on at 12 one of the tongas the yellow finger, the kenga leathers all shrink up for an hour or so then slowly open back up. My tank is only 4 months old so nothings been in there that long would that be causing it, or are they all just adjusting to the tank? Any help would be appreciated. thanks drifty

  6. in kowloon just north of the lady's market(same street)
  7. Ha got a few angry stares, a few stores wouldnt let me take photos at all. The lighting is all fluros, no reflectors or anything like that. Suprisingly most the salt water fish looked healthy, most of the tanks had huge filtration systems attached. I saw one tank with around 50 powder browns and no whitespot to be seen. While the fish in bags thing bothers me, and the high fish load also bothered me, most of the fish did seem healthy which is some consolation. Seems like there are mostly fish only systems there as there wasnt a lot of corals available, no stoney corals at all, but a fairly large selection of softy's. There was however a massive selection of angels, both fully grown and juv. The blue ring in one of the photos was easily the size of a dinner plate, I have never seen one that big before. I saw one tank that was probably 6 m by 1 m wide on the ground that was jammed full of maybe 200 clams of all different discriptions, quite an amazing site
  8. Just got back from overseas, part of the trip I went to Hong Kong for 4 days. I looked for fish shops(as u do), in kowloon are all located on one street. There are a total of around 400 fish shops ( salt, fresh, tropical, tank and stand makers etc) anything you could possible ever want for a fish tank you can get from this street. Here are a few photos of what I saw. It seemed on average the saltwater shops would have at least 1000 fish in stock Yellow tangs Juv Queen and French angels Fish in bags waiting to be sold, this was a very common sight, but only for fresh and tropical fish Shop front display Same again Moorish idols and a large blue ring angel More fish in bags for sale Butterflies 6 meter long shop display
  9. i got the 350d duty free on my way back into the country. I was in hong kong but they are only 150 cheaper over there and warranty issues would have been a problem. I paid $1400, with 1 gig memory card for another 100. My brother has the older model of the 350 thats why i got it
  10. I just brought the 350d this week, its awesome, takes great photos.

  16. what happens to sps if the cal and alk are below the recommended levels. Do the corals die or just grow slower?
  17. I have a pair of maroon clowns and my bro has a pair of black clowns. The black clowns are far more territorial than the maroons i have. When I had an emperor angel the clowns were very aggressive towards it but since its gone they aren't aggressive to anyone in the tank. I have also been nipped by my maroons but again only when the emperor was there
  18. my brother just found one when he moved his tank a month ago, it was 45cm long and seem highly pissed off at being disturbed
  19. what other fish have you got with them? a maroon clown pair, cleaner wrasse, blue tang and a bi-colour bleney, only fish i ever saw picking at the rocks were the angels though
  20. something ate all the aptasia I ever had, it was either the emperor or the elibi angel
  21. if you want two streams get the single controller and a branch adapter, makes the controller control both streams, works fine for me and is a lot cheaper than a multi controller
  22. 90% of the rock is new. My lights are only on between 12 and 6pm at the moment so even with the blinds closed the shot isnt good. Will take a better shot in a months time
