    nsw

In auckland, where do you all get it from, when is a good time(tide/ daynight etc), do you need to store it for a certain length of time before using, Can you alternate if needed between nsw and salt powder
  3. how do most people get into this hobby. I know my first tank started as a fish only with some live rock, and has slowly changed to a reef over the last 4 years. How did everyone else start, as fish only or straight into a reef???
  4. i have just had 2 tanks drilled by 2 different tank makers, both only had a 32mm hole saw. I am sure you could get it cut somewhere else though. I have used a 25mm hansen though hull fitting which fit perfectly in the 32mm hole. drifty
  5. I want to do part of my new tank with a starboard sub also, only under the reef rack where it cant be seen anyway, will be interested to find out what you come up with. Lol will it be in the next week though as my new tank goes on the stand this weekend

as a juv the emperor didnt pick at anything, picks at most things in the tank though now(leathers, mushrooms)
  8. I had an orange shoulder. Started out yellow and grew like crazy. changed to adult colours in about 2 years. Was WAY to big for my 4 ft tank do had to sell him to someone with a larger tank. My one was very aggressive with my blue tank, but an amazing fish all the same. I wouldnt put him in anything smaller than a 6ft tank at least

my emperor would love all the juicy things in your tanks chimera
  10. mine never hid at all until he tried walking under the lights
  11. i moved my tank twice in the last 6 months, only about 10 fish and soft corals only though. I brought 6 50l rubbish bins and 10 20 plastic buckets with lids and got a few poly bins from the local fish store. Let just say the second time i moved was a lot easier than the first and went a lot smoother
  12. What did you all do with daylight savings. Did you just change the timers on your lights or do you do it slowly over a week period. Just wanna know for next year
  13. yeah amazing photos, what sort of camera do you have?
  14. will have to check an out pc to see if I have any old pictures, never really thought he would change like he has. He is about 15-17cm long
  15. tank is 4ft, total volume around 400l. I use instant ocean for water changes. Yeah really like the emperor, had him for around 3 years from a juvinile and watched him change into his adult colours. He nips at the odd thing in the tank but he is worth it, tame as though can hand feed him

    Goldfish Pagoda

would I buy a coral or a fish without first seeing it in a tank, seeing it eat, how it swims etc, NO. Personally I want to see all of these things before i buy something so I would go to a shop that has display tanks. As far as hard goods are concerned, I dont care where I buy it from so long as the price is right
  17. Initially the tank was set up as a fowlr but has slowly evolved over the last 4 years into a reef of sorts. I felt the rock should be able to do the job plus I added the fuge a month before i took them out. Have never had a problem with nitrates, always been zero.
  18. fuge has a dsb and calupra, it is very samll but all i could fit in the base. Had a bio tower until 3 months ago, so just a bare sump and a skimmer. Also have a canister filter with phosphate remover inline with a uv steraliser, thinking of rmoving both of these in the next few months. lighting is all floru, 4 white and 2 blue tubes
  19. yep its all coraline, grows like crazy I also have 2 pumps under the rack for circulation
  20. Hopefully they will work

    overflow size

I am having 2 overflows for my new tank, I have ordered 2 32mm tank fittings for this, will this be enough?? or should I go with 2 40mm fittings instead. The return pump at this stage will be 4200l per hour

do you have a picture of the whole tank one month prior and one after. I thought some of the background corals looked worse but then the pictures are complete different colors so hard to tell
