  1. I have a niger trigger in my reef tank. He is a real clown and does some strange things. I used to have a large green bird nose wrasse in my reef tank. The only thing i could not keep was cleaner and fire shrimp. Red banded coral shrimp were ok.
  2. I would go for a fish only. I have had my reef tank now for 7 years and really miss my fish only. Large marine fish really develop great personalities and are amazing to watch and most of the awsome ones cant go in a reef tank

    Frozen mysis

I used to buy mysis from Wonder World in Rotorua. They still sell loads of it. Cant remember the brand name but its worth a shot. GIve them a ring.
  4. Is the rock still alive ?. I would watch the algae growth and type to see how the system is going without any live stock. It may need to cycle a bit first. To much bio load for skimmer and live rock can cause problems to. Would hate to see you lose anymore fish.
  5. I brought a TDS tester last time i did my RO. It cost $135 for the tester which was worth it because it would have cost me the same for the membrane filter which did not need changing. It my take a few years to get my moneys worth out of it but at least i know for sure now when to change it.
  6. Yeah i have got heaps growing in my tank. I dont frag it as i find after it gets to a certain size it splits. Has also grown the odd little baby out the side. Not enough people down my end with good enough tanks to take it all. It does look awsome in a large cluster though.
  7. Its got to happen. I cant see it it ever growing faster then its being removed.
  8. I can only get glass 3.9m long so its looking like two joins or acrylic. I will look into acrylic next week. The oregon reef tank link is realy good. Still worried about scratches.
  9. Im going to try my hardest to stay fish only so i dont spend every cent i have. I wish i won lotto. Thats a good point t8's would do it. How does acrylic stand up to cleaning and the age of time? . Will it scratch easy ? . By viewing panels do you mean have glass sections with joins. If power was cheaper i would go coral but can you imagine the power bill of running 30x 400w MH lights plus 20 streams and the pallet loads of calcium and mag etc. What about the tank itself. Any ideas there.
  10. Not really after MH lighting. Maybe T5.
  11. We will hopefully be moving in a couple of years and i am starting to round up some bits for my new tank and get some prices on materials. Looking at building a 8 to 10 meter fish only. We were thinking around 20mm thick by 8 to 10m long by around 700mm high. So far we have come up with making it out of concrete or maybe marine ply with a fiber glass inside. Kind of like a insideout boat. Also lighting ideas? This is not a joke. The only thing that will make it smaller is the house or the price of the glass front.
  12. I would go with what reef said. Wait till the day after your change and give it some more tests for piece of mind before adding any fish.

    Spare Aptaisia?

Its a shame you cant hire out a copperband when a tank clean is required.
  14. Its very hard to get rid of them in my tank now without breaking my acros. Especialy the ones by the montipora digita. I suck mine out with the hose which seems to be working very slowly. I brought a sail fin tang which did nothing. My rabbit fish has a knibble now and then. I stopped popping them about 6 months back which has helped on the way to there doom. As for the water quality being the reason of there arrival, i think this is not true as i have had some bad tanks over the years and the only time i have ever got them is from someone elses coral. Frag or shop.

    skimmer

A second hand one would be the way to go, but still they are never cheap if they are good ones. Bugger
