  1. Mine likes neons and Nutrafin Bottom Feeder Tabs either quartered or halved.
  2. I use Band Aid Liquid Bandage, not cheap and you only get 5 applicators but i just squeeze a couple of drops on the damage and it lasts a lot longer. Way better protection than any plaster and much easier than gloves
  3. Thanks all for the advice Lost 2 striata loaches but my main concern is my big clown, done a few more water changes ( 20% a day for 3 days ) and added salt at 1gram per litre, tanks looking better i.e. more active fish, eating better and i cant see any slime on any of the fish. When i do my gravel vac i wave it over the surface of the substrate to lift gunk, it doesnt seem to get the build up that the other tanks do, exact opposite of my GBA tank. Thanks for that link Caper, very handy. Marcus is growing real fast and loves the fish Thats his swordtails nibbling my fingers look LOL
  4. I've got 1 striata & 1 queen loach's that have white patches on their sides, almost as if they had brushed against a paint brush, breathing fast with a tendency to float slightly nose up. They have been in the same tank for 18mths with quite a few other loaches (3 clowns), Black Ghost Knife and a pair of b/nose, the male b/nose seems to have a strip of this same stuff running along the edge of his right fin but none of the other fish are showing any signs of this gunk or stress. Tank is AR850(165ltr) with 120ltrs of water, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate10, ph 6.8 Weekly 30ltr water changes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
  5. One thing i have found that BBA doesn't seem to like is current. Added an internal filter into one of my tanks with BBA and in the line of flow all the BBA disappeared
  6. If the fish are gasping at the surface it wont be the filter it will be a lack of oxygen at higher temps, try airating the water or move the filter outlet closer to the surface to increase surface disruption which will add more oxygen to the water.

    power bill

Last year when we were living in Glenfield we got a $900 power bill, rang them and they said it hadn't been read for a year (sound familiar) we complained saying it's not our fault they haven't read the meter. Took a bit but in the end they credited $500 so ended up at $400. Certainly worth a crack for that much. My advice, hassle them LOL
  8. I use a 2213 Eheim on a 120ltr 3ft tank with approx 100 GBA ranging in size from 3cm to adult and clean the filter every 3 months. Makes me wonder if it's a bit like cars, sometimes your lucky sometimes your not.
  9. "Give it a shake" LOL My 2213 (have 3 of these) i just suck on the outlet, let it syphon fill, when the water comes up the outlet pipe plug it in and off they go. One of them is 5 yrs old and only ever replace the filter wool twice a year. I have heard of a few problems with the wet & dry Eheims but never heard a bad thing about the classic range.
  10. Spend the extra and get an Eheim Classic, Much cheaper than the Eheim Professional range and ultra reliable. $185 gets a 2217 that will do up to a 600 ltr tank, pretty economical IMO.
  11. Got my fingers crossed that they breed, if they do forum members will have first dibs for sure I have some black swords in the same tank and think a black sword with the red eyes would look great, guess it's all up to them to do their thing now, time will tell LOL
  12. Just picked up 12 Albino Koi Swords from Hollywood Fishfarm Mt Roskill, there are some left but i got the last of the ones with any orange around the tail area.
  13. Got mine today, haven't started reading it yet but it will be finished before midnight LOL Happy Birthday Janey Thanks for the great mag Caryl : -)>
  14. Off a single plug outlet in the garage i have 6 x 4 way power boards running my 5 tanks, thats 3 x canister filters, 4 x internal filters, 3 x 300 & 2 200 watt heaters, 4 x lights consisting of 9 tubes, 1 air pump, 1 x pedestal fan, 1 x large fridge freezer, 1 x microwave and 2 x cell phone chargers and i have had no problems. Next place (fish room  ) will be a much better setup but this works for now.
  15. You will probably find that with the weather being hotter the tank has warmed up and the warmer the water the less oxygen content. I was using a small air pump on my GBA breeding tank but have had to put a bigger pump on as they too were surfacing for air. If they are surfacing for air increase the surface disruption by either more air or the filter outlet closer to the surface to create some agitation, or both.
  16. Awesome looking guppy, good money to at $50US per fish with shipping on top They would sell like hotcakes in NZ

    Scale Loss

Have you added any fish or changed anything in the tank? Is he brushing up against something sharp or coarse enough to do the damage?
  18. You forgot the 10 juvenille b/nose i gave you last night, no algae probs now ay LOL
  19. Have you actually removed the old silicon and replaced it with new or just siliconed over the top? To do it properly the old silicon must be removed so the new silicon has good contact witn the glass.
  20. Have to say bristlenose, got a couple in with my 30cm black ghost knife with no problems.
  21. If you have your bubble wand going to hard it may be dissipating the CO2 out of the water, surface disruption increase oxygenation but decreases CO2 content. I have found that changing to 6500k tubes makes the plants grow a lot better.
  22. I've never used carbon and always get told the water looks crystal clear, IMO all you need is a decent mechanical and biological filter.
  23. I wouldn't worry about the p.h. 6.6 should be fine, most fish have a reasonable tolerance and so long as it isn't going through large changes it should be ok. You can take the carbon out, it probably has absorbed most of the p.h. plus, usually the carbon only lasts a month or so and most will only use it to filter out meds they have used. I wouldn't worry about adding p.h. 7.0 either, leave it for a week or so and then check to make sure it hasn't fluctuated to much. HTH Shane
  24. Why not put M&D and the fry into the 2ft tank, that will kepp them and you happy LOL  Mine make it easy for me, the eggs are stuck inside an helicopter with the male so i just pick it up and put it in the other tank. Good luck with the fry Penejane and Lynda
