  1. Fords all the way, go gissy. They do run the same diff and g/box but different brakes and engines. The only similarity to a road car is the shape. The skyline was a very different car to the v8's, a bit like comparing the new GTR versus the Audi in the latest 12hr at Bathurst.
  2. 6 cubes of bloodworms a day is a lot for a 20cm eel, i agree with trying to get it onto shrimp. How often you feed is personal choice, all my tanks including my fire eel get 4 feeds a week.
  3. They will eat them but prefer meaty foods. I feed mine NLS Thera+A 1mm sinking pellets that most of the different species of small loaches eat, the bigger loaches get 2mm pellets and also Nutrafin Bottom Feeder Tablets. Blood worms or white worms as a treat they'll love as well. The veg discs are good for variety in their diet. Like us a bit of everything keeps us healthy.
  4. I thought about a big Eheim on my 800ltr all loaches tank but decided on 2 x 2217's. All my tanks run Eheim 2217's because in 7 yrs and of the 7 x 2217's i run they've never given any trouble. I have a 2250 on my 500ltr grow out tank in the shed which works well, same flow rate as the 2217 but contains a lot more media. The pins that hold the clips on the 2217's can be loose from factory but a quick squeeze with long nose pliers sorts that out permanently. I prefer having 2 filters so when one is cleaned there is less disruption to the good bacteria and it also gives more scope for directing outflow, its nice to have 2 inlets at different heights in the tank as well which i think keeps the water clearer. The best part of the classic's like the 2217 or 2260 are they are about the only filters that have an inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top so you know for sure the water is going through all the media.
  5. Hiya Melanie, I'm glad he's giving you as many fry as he gave me lol 4 cm is a good size and $2 each is a good price which should see them go fairly quickly. They are a pretty hardy fish, when i sent 10 GBA's to someone, from the time they went into the bag till they came out was 54 hrs with no losses. It shouldn't be long before there's more lol
  6. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/F ... 956270.htm Perfect for your size tank.
  7. I bought 2 5000lph sunsun wavemakers off trade me for my 7ft tank to get water flowing at the bottom of the tank for my loaches, even mounting them 250mm up from the bottom they were pushing the gravel away leaving bare glass spots on the glass, i then bought 2 3000lph sunsun's and they arent to bad, ive had to move some larger rocks to disturb the flow at the bottom to stop them blowing the gravel away, mounted higher up they would be great. I got mine off trade me through a trader called 2727618 as they were considerably cheaper than anyone else, his also have a kiwi plug and come with both the magnetic and suction holders. Love magnetic holders now :happy1: When are manufacturers going to convert to magnets instead of hopeless suction cups (sick of finding filters, inlets, outlets & heaters on the bottom or dangling free from stupid suction cups letting go :an!gry .)
  8. I called in there a few Saturdays ago at about 6.30pm, some nice fish and chatted to the owner for nearly an hour, he seems to know what hes talking about and said he was waiting until properly set up before doing any advertising. Very good pricing and definetly worth a look.
  9. My eheim has never given me trouble and neither have my Aqua Ones, the eheim is slightly quieter but alot more expensive.
  10. They are pretty much the same species and i have heard several times of normals and GBA's breeding with the fry being a mixtureof the two, max size is probably 12-13cm with most around 10cm, $32 is pretty expensive, Hollywood have them for i think $12ea.
  11. Hi, i agree with the no additives theory, small water changes daily are the best thing. Sorry to hear of the losses but if you ever get out to south Auckland (Weymouth) let me know via PM, i've got a pair of GBA's here that you can have that should put a smile back on your face :happy2: . They'll be a good clean up crew for your tank. You may also want to check out Hollywood Fishfarm in Mt Roskill ,IMO better quality fish ( & definetly cheaper) than animates.
  12. Haha i like that, Phil forgot the bit saying to remove when batter was crispy lol My angels have had 25-26 for several years now without problems.
  13. Really?? Dont have to spend money?? I havent seen any free tanks, stands or offers of free fish food lately, i also havent seen any free filters, heaters or fish either, not to mention lights, ornaments, gravel, rockery, driftwood or power and even water costs money these days. The person with this tank was asking about filters, which are not free. How many of your tanks cost nothing to setup & nothing to run Ryan? What do you feed them on, water ? lol Filters, heaters etc are recommended on all tanks and they are unfortunately not free, this person also owns a 400ltr marine tank which to setup & run would be far from free. Unfortunately if you want something in this life you will have to pay for it, it's called reality.
  14. If you've got the money buy the filter then instead of moaning about the price, if you want happy fish put your hand in your pocket. What you may save on filtration now will probably be used on meds when the fish get sick. Wow you must get a very good allowance to do all that with no income.
  15. Just buy a CF1200, they are the cheapie of the filter world, or save up for an Eheim @ $350+ or at least put the correct refills in the filter you have. You've got a 120G marine but cant afford a basic filter, thats just crazy LMAO
  16. Ive got 6 of the Botia Histronica in a large loach only tank with about 30 similar sized loaches and have noticed with most of the loach species that the growth rate can vary immensely, i've got 1 thats easily doubled in size within a couple of months and a couple that dont seem to have grown at all although they were the same size when they went in about 1 yr ago.
  17. I think barren is the correct term, feel sorry for the poor eel though.
  18. How many of your tanks have only UGF's now Caryl? Bet you didnt have Oscars in them lol
  19. Google search to find out which pet shops are in Hamilton then e-mail them to see if they can have some for when your there. Hollywood can post, but the postage would cost more than 3 Kuhli loaches so pretty crazy especially considering your not working so wouldn't have tons of money.
  20. Under gravel filters were good 10 years ago but outdated now for a reason, think about doing a clean out, how many hours to clean out an undergravel filter versus a canister filter or sump? You say you may get oscars which will overload the undergravel filter and never dispose of the poo let alone the oscars digging in the gravel. I have 2 Eheim 2217 canisters on my 800ltr + 2 2212 internals that havent been cleaned in 3 yrs and could never imagine stripping the whole thing down for a clean, once a year i clean the canister filters which is about 45mins each (do them a month apart though). You could go the quick way but as they say "good things take time".
  21. It was also one of the specials in their e-mails a 10 ltr goldfish tank, animates are only interested in profits not the animals welfare like they advertise, i think of them as the politicians of the animal world, say one thing then do the opposite. I laugh every time my son looks at a "cute" $1000 mongrel pup with a sign on the glass asking for donations of paper for the kennels lmao. They are also about 50% more expensive than Hollywood Fishfarm for identical product.s
  22. Pats Henward on the back, loved the video of the silvers munching lol, not sure why its been removed though. If it was a fish eating a person it would be ok and plastered all over the news lol.
  23. Im in weymouth and have a 3' tank im not using, could use it as long as you need, seems where ever you are located theres a spare tank for ya lol
  24. Hi, it doesn't sound like a ph problem to me, 6.3 shouldn't be killing fish, how long has the tank been setup and how often do you do the gravel vac/ water changes and what percentage of water do you change? How big is the tank vs what size filter? You say you regularly clean the filter but how often? ie weekly, monthly etc Ive found my kuhli loaches race around the tank after water changes which i have put down to chlorine/low oxygen etc in the water from the hose, the bigger the change the longer they freak out for. They also dont seem to like the water being stirred up to much from gravel vacs so i only vac every 4th water change. They seem to be the most sensitive of the loaches as the other loach tanks get no reaction from water changes. Have you checked Ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrate levels?
  25. I had a stand built to suit my 1950L x 650W x 650H 800litre tank, probably way over kill with 8 x 100mm box section legs and 100x100 angle iron on top, very heavy but ultra safe, powder coated blue it cost me $1000 all up. Looks very good to.
