  1. I'm so sorry to hear of such a major loss minchton, i have some GBA here that you are welcome to if you like.
  2. Stress Coat is supposed to remove cholrine, neutralize chloramine, detoxify heavy metals and replace the slime coating, Stress Zyme is similar to Cycle but not sure which is better as i just use fish and water changes to cycle. I only use stress coat if a fish has some sort of damage to it's scales. I don't add anything for water changes now either just plain tap water but depending on where you are located you may need to.
  3. I had quite a lot of BBA but noticed when i started using a Nutrafin CO2 setup it's not affecting new growth anymore, my reasoning is that whatever excess nutrients were causing the BBA are now being used by plants that are growing a lot faster. I think anyway LOL
  4. And i have just found out that two normal b/nose can both carry a recessive gold gene which would end up with about 25% of the fry being GBA so looks like your in luck LOL
  5. How old are the fry? As far as i know it's impossible for normal b/nose to have GBA. If per chance they are they have come down a lot now, a very well known LFS in Mt Eden has small ones for $19.95 which is the cheapest i have seen them in a lfs. Pricing is up to you really.
  6. A lot of it depends on you stocking load, filtration and if you have live plants. Twice a week certainly won't hurt them, as long as the tank is cycled the water change is mainly to dilute nitrate, i do twice a week water changes to keep the phosphate levels down to stop BBA from taking off. Also a good opportunity to trim and replant cabomba, watersprite and ambulia in my tank.
  7. It is possible, very hard not to overfeed, they seem to be so hungry LOL I would expect that if you were overfeeding you would have worse water quality and probably some algae build up from excess nutrients in the water.
  8. How long has it been like that? If it'sonly one day i would do the water change and see what it's like tomorrow, if it hasn't improved or if you notice later today it is getting worse then definetly add the melafix, pity you dont have a very small tank to put it in as it means you can use less melafix. Crosses fingers it gets better overnight : -)>
  9. Have they done any damage to each other? Probably just had a spat LOL It shouldn't last to long, you may find one is dominant and the other one is being put back in place.
  10. Personally i wouldn'y use wood from the beach if it has been contaminated, theres no way to guarantee how deep the contaminents have soaked in so i would be weary. The pleco will be fine with the algae wafers, the bit of wood to chew on and keeping the tank clean. : -)>

    Ottos' poo?

No they aren't constipated, if they were there would be no poo, they should be fine as long as there is something coming out LOL
  12. It does seem like an awful lot of fish for a small tank, easiest solution would be to get a bigger tank as you will have problems as the fish grow with that size tank. What size heater and what sort of filter are you using? Do you have test kits for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate? If so what are the levels of each?
  13. The lead if left long enough with no water changes would be poisonous. With normal water changes i doubt if there would even be enough lead leeched into the water to measure, have you bought plants from the LFS before? They use it to keep the plants on the bottom and it's been used in aquariums for ages, i've never heard of it being a problem before. Similar to why the government withdrew leaded petrol, because its bad for our health although i've never heard of anyone dying from lead poisoning from it (the new fuel though is cancer causing which in my opinion is a lot more of a problem). I always use lead for plants etc and have never had a problem.
  14. Ditto with the loach tank, just need somewhere to put it to give enough hidey holes to them all, got 5 Clowns, 2 Angelicious, 2 Zodiac, 2 Striata, 2 Yo-Yo and 2 Queens. They all get on well but the Zodiacs are ummmm a bit boisterous shall we say, wondered why my Swords were ending up as one eyes and turns out it's the Zodiacs. Needless to say no snails in that tank LOL (lil b@#$%^s still find them in the filter though). The Striata would be the most peacefull i have found.
  15. Should be called wood, Pleco Chips says "With Vital Wood Chips" I don't think the Wardley discs have wood in them, does your LFS have any driftwood, safer and easier than trying to find some yourself and looks great in a tank as well (saves having to buy more food for them).
  16. Sorry to her of the loss of your pleco Caper Is the other one eating? I put the food where they spend the most time to make it easier for them, not sure if you get JBL products there but they all seem to love the Pleco Chips, i think you had some algae based wafers didn't you? Do they eat these and do they contain a percentage of wood chips? From what i know they need wood in their diet to assist with digestion.

    angelfish

I have a 160ltr with 2 in it and would like a bigger tank, they need quite a tall tank and plenty of plants to hide in.
  18. For my b/nose i cut a slice about 1 1/2 inches thick then cut it in half down the center, i use lead weights pushed into it to keep it on the bottom and replace it every 12 hrs. I don't cook mine at all as cooking negates most of the goodness from being a raw vege. I used to soak it for an hour or two but don't bother anymore.
  19. The food is JBL Gala which i use in 2 other tanks with no problems, have been using this container of food for about 2 mths now. The co2 has been in for 6 weeks and has been good and still seems good. Think maybe the "Twilight Zone" has paid me a visit with some mystery deaths.
  20. I would try a couple or 3 wafers spread throughout the tank to give them a chance at some.
  21. I couldn't see anything coming out, just a split a couple of mm across. Yes it was Marcus's 1st birthday Friday, went awesome except for one brat that tore his inflatable bouncy castle ($70 at K-Mart) before he had a chance to play in it  Thanks Caper : -)>

    Guppys

Not sure how he got in there but you should definetly not turn your filter off, you will probably find that all the good bacteria in the filter will die off overnight. Filters should run 24/7 or you will run into water quality problems.
  23. In the top pic you can see the most orange fish is female with fry inside, one of the others was just starting to turn male with about a 7mm sword just starting. Food wise it is the same as always, JBL Gala, i bought a large container and have been feeding out of this for a couple of months now, they get one feed of rinsed bloodworms every Sunday but looks like these four will miss out, the tanks are in the garage and we had a kids party here yesterday, i made sure there were no hands in the water or tapping on the tanks but could they have been stressed from having quite a few different people moving around (although this wouldn't explain the bloating). Thanks Caper but after loosing so many guppies a while back you seem to get more used to it, still frustrating though especially not knowing why and will it happen to any others.
  24. Wondering if someone can shine some light on why i lost 4 swords overnight, they were fine and normal shape at lights out (7pm) last night but bloated and very dead this morning, ammonia & nitrite are 0 nitrate 25, did a 30ltr water change Wednesday night (1200x450x450mm 190ltr tank), filtered with a 2213 cannister and 2010 internal Eheims that haven't been touched for a month and still have good flow, the containers i used for the water change are fish only and never had anything but fresh water in them. A couple of Clown Loaches, 2 x Zodiac Loaches, 6 x GBA, about a dozen Guppies and about 20 more swords are all fine showing no symptoms, also have a nutrafin co2 setup going that has been going for about 6 weeks. 2 of the ones in the bottom photo seem to have actually ruptured through the back of the stomach Thanks in advance : -)> Here's a couple of pics..... Sorry if the pics are to large but wanted them easily viewable.
  25. Depending on which side of the bridge you are on of course but Jansens and Hollywood Fishfarm are must checks, timing has a lot to do with it, sometimes they will have a good range of normal and fancy plecs and other times very few, have a ring around would be my recommendation and give Pupuke Aquariums a try as well.
