  1. Ive got 1 in a 4' with 9 clown loaches im growing up and only see it at feeding time, i also have a black ghost, brown ghost and a banded knife in the 7' loach tank inside and its the same with them, they all seem to love the nutrafin bottom feeder tablets that the loaches like, i break them into half or quarters and feed them after ive turned the lights off so they get a chance to eat as the loaches are pigs. Very common to see them laying on their sides without moving if the lights are on but they soon move when the lights go off and the food is added LOL
  2. Fire eels are cool, ive got 2 growing up together in a 500ltr, they get on well but from what i understand that may change as they get bigger, if it does one can go into my 800ltr which will keep them happy. The branded tanks like Aqua One etc do look nice but i prefer a normal glass tank because you can specify what dimensions you want e.g. wide tank, tall tank or long tank, also easier to customize with heaters, filtration, power heads etc and usually cheaper. If you add what area you are in to your profile someone may have something suitable to sell you at a reasonable price. Last of all enjoy :slfg:
  3. Are the kids (6 yrs old) tickets the same price as adult? If so $200 for 3 of us to go is just to expensive, we will end up going to transformers (sons preference anyway) instead. His Trophy Kart is soaking up any spare money at the moment.
  4. Generally just GBA fry, amazing how long they can live in the bottom of the filter.
  5. Do you run a brush through the hoses and spray bar when your cleaning them? Mine still flow like new after a clean out. A noisy filter can sometimes mean there is air trapped inside, i tilt mine from side to side slowly with the filter running to get any excess air out. What model is your current filter?
  6. Try to have the out end of the hose as low as possible in relation to the tank, e.g bucket on the floor. The further apart the in & out part of the syphon hose the faster the water will flow. If you can get to Weymouth send me a PM and i can show you how to get it flowing correctly.
  7. I use an Eheim 2217 classic canister and an Eheim 2212 Aquaball internal (sponges removed and using ehfisubstrat pro instead)on my 3' 130ltr GBA tank that usually has 200-300 GBA's of all sizes (at feeding time the bottom is literally covered in fish), they have been on there for 5+ yrs with no problems, the filters get a clean about every 4-6 mths (daily 30ltr water changes). If your intake is to low it can suck up fry, mine is about 200mm from the bottom. Some say they dont flow enough water which in my opinion is good, the water spends longer in the filter so the bacteria can do their job properly and clean the water, as opposed to those where the water flows through fast without being completly cleansed of ammonia etc, ( if your looking for water flow i use a sunsun magnetic or tunze pump designed for water flow). I also like the low power consumption of the Eheim's. I have always used the classic Eheims without trouble and currently run 5 x 2217 's and 1 x 2213 along with 3 x Aquaballs and 3 x sunsun pumps (for flow)on 4 tanks of up to 800 ltrs.
  8. Just wondering, you are syphoning water out as your vacuuming? The water flowing out should suck the gunk out.
  9. Even with 20% off the Nutrafin food it's still a lot cheaper to buy from Hollywood Fishfarm. Considering how many branches they have, when are they going to get a decent website?
  10. I tried between these and nutrafin bottom feeder tabs which are basically the same except the bottom feeder tabs wont stick to the glass, my loaches (6 varieties), GBA's, black ghost, brown ghost and banded knife prefer the nutrafin over the JBL, still got a container of the novo tabs i try every now & then but they just leave it. Some of the big clown loaches will come to the surface to get their bottom feeder tabs. A bit more economical for the nutrafin as well.
  11. I put 2 5000lph ones (onw either side) in my 7' for bottom of the tank flow but they kept moving the gravel even when 150mm off the bottom so got a couple of 3000lph ones that are about 75mm off the bottom and they are still moving the gravel, i put some larger stones down on top to stop it. They have given no trouble in 6 mths and have a good very wide current. Definetly go for the magnetic ones, the other option to these were the Tunze at $200 each. I know there were a few selling the SunSun on trade me with a picture of the magnetic holder but they only cam with suction cups so make sure you ask about magnetic attachment. This is the guy i got mine from, came with suction cups and magnet. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Pumps-filters/auction-385558769.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Pumps-filters/auction-385811365.htm If you want smaller just ask him and it appears he is now selling the Tunze as well, very good price but still a lot dearer than the sunsun. This is their website.....http://aquaworld.co.nz/estore/category/reef%20keeping/hardware.aspx
  12. Dont feed for a day or two before the move, the fish wont excrete as much so the water will stay better for longer.
  13. 20% water changes every 2 or 3 weeks sound to small, i would be doing 20-30% twice a week. Do you gravel vac every time? How well oxygenated is the tank? Does it have much surface disruption i.e spray bar pointing up or above the water to help oxygenation? How are the ghost knife and b/nose acting, breathing fast or normal? How often do you clean out the filter?
  14. I used poly bins from the LFS to move the fish, once the house move was completed it took another day to move the fish, you might be able to use large plastic bins but i found the poly kept the temp better until i could get the tanks setup again, 60 or 240ltr drums would be ideal if you want to use the existing water although i used the water from the poly bins and probably 50-75% tap water & had to re cycle everything as the filters were off for a while so bacteria died. Took all day to move 5 tanks and the tanks and stands take up a lot of room. Dont forget regular water changes for a little while until the tanks settle down again.
  15. If you read the instructions that will never happen, looks like hes had the heater turned on and hot before putting it in water going by the steam coming off the broken heater. No amount of quality will ever beat stupidity, although Jager do have a boil dry cut off switch which is why you pay 3 times the price of cheaper heaters.
  16. It seems to easy and whats with the "buried at sea" thing. Personally, i suspect Obama Bin Lying
  17. That 2260 i got off trade me had tons of bio balls and noodles but hand cut sponges, im going to get some of the coarse sponges from HWFF this coming weekend so will let you know how much (hoping they have them in stock). Could almost guarantee they will be more than $10, id imagine $30-$40, hopefully get a twin pack so i can use one in my 2250 as well. I dont use the fine filter wool anymore because it clogs to fast and slows the flow.
  18. My 2260 eheim uses 50watts for 2280ltrs with an 18 ltr volume, just bought off trade me for $210 :happy2: Theres what looks like a 2250 on trade me for $295 no reserve. I'm not sure your angels will like such a high flow filter though.
  19. The less is better theory is highlighted by the old GT falcons, pay $5000 for a brand new one but $500,000+ for one now. Selling more in some cases is good but only for the parent companys pockets, when holden first introduced the clubsport it was a case of wow look at that, thats cool, but now the things are everywhere so are nothing more special than just a V8 commodore, there arent any where near as many GTP Falcons around which makes you look at them, the stripes being an idenitfying mark similar to the bonnet bulge indentifiying a V8 falcon. I have never seen a real race car using struts unless its a road car with a cage, (have a look at the front suspension of an F1 car or Indy car) the strut setup goes through to many unwanted camber & caster changes as it goes up and down. The SLA system gives you a lot more control over what changes you want to happen during jounce & rebound. The strut will also show flex (which is why the commodore race car now has wishbones) especially when under the loading a slick tyre can place on it. Vw & hyundai are not particularly well known for performance, ive been working on cars for over 25 years and wouldnt own either of them, Nissan on the other hand does have had and do have some good cars, never been my flavour but cant deny the success of the skyline over the years.
  20. Toyota would do well except that they dont have a V8 or a rear drive platform, i think the landcruisers V8 diesel may be a bit heavy and sluggish :happy2:
  21. The bit i find hard case is engine wise, a new 6.0 holden ss has 260kw (348hp) & the smaller 5.4 xr8 has 290kw (389hp). Compare the fpv against an hsv and the ford is 315 or 335kw & the 6.2 hsv is 317 or 325kw. The ford is less common than the holden which is good. Rear suspension geometry is better on the falcon and you cant beat the sla or wishbone setup on the front especially for enthusiastic driving.
  22. LOL, i have to admit it will probably be Whincup for the championship (not because of the Holden but because of triple8 racing), have you seen how many Holden badged cars have Daewoo stamped on them these days. Worst move holden have done for a long time was bringing back the Viva name, had lots of laughs about that. I owned a VP commodore for 11 years and it was a damn good car, i prefer my BA falcon though.
  23. Smidey, there may not have been any Fords on pole but who won the ITM400 round overall? Gissy in a Ford, i had tears in my eyes when he crossed the finishing line because it was a monumental thing for.... A, Gissy to get his first race win and first round win :happy1: B, a kiwi winning the NZ round :happy1: C, a ford winning the ITM 400 :happy2: D, recieving the Mark Porter trophy is a huge & probably emotional thing (RIP Mark ) E, Stone Bros (locals) winning the ITM400 :happy1: He an awesome guy that deserves the win, woulda hugged him if i could have, a massive win for the kiwis and the ford fans. 11 Fords versus 17 Holdens
  24. Woo Hoo Gissy :happy1: :happy2: A supreme drive resulting in a win for ford and NZ Just awesome :happy1: :happy2:
  25. It will be an uphill battle for the fords with only 11 versus 17 holdens, a very interesting race yesterday that was hugely changed by dramas in the pits, should be dry today so unfortunately id say Whincup will probably win. Go gissy !
