  1. Havent heard of a 2214 before, Hollywood ususally has the 2213 for about $180 normal price.
  2. Excellent thanks Ryan Ill give Hollywood a call in the morning Failing that ill give Wok a call, he will know someone.
  3. Flourish Excell at double doses may work, or as in my case it might just kill your loaches, after spending $300 odd on Flourish Excell trying to rid it from my tanks i came up with a much cheaper method. I've had the gunk in several tanks and pulling it off is not an option, you will only get the longer stringy bits. Double the frequency of your water changes, its usually caused by excess phosphates. Shrimp pellets are high in phosphates and if you feed blood worms rinse them thoroughly in a fine net to get rid of the blood. In my 3ft 120ltr GBA tank (200 odd fish between 3-8cm) because of the amount of food i have to feed i had BBA 40mm long, i was doing 20ltr daily water changes, have increased that to 30ltrs daily and its nearly all gone. As it comes off it will need vacuming from the tank. It wont come off your plants but new leaves should grow free from it. Good luck with it.
  4. Best & cheapest way ive found to control algae is more water changes. I had a BBA problem in my 3ft GBA tank with around 200 GBA's, due to the amount needed to feed that many fish i ended up with a lot of BBA approx 40mm long, looked terrible. I used to do 20ltr daily water changes and have upped that to 30ltrs a day and its nearly all gone. The light will definetly affect it but smaller light or bigger light, more hours or less hours ???? Who knows LOL Easier just to do more water changes, try same amount of water change but instead of 1 every 2 weeks try twice a week for a week then weekly.
  5. Thanks Ryan, yep still eating very well. Is Metro available from HFF? Does it include dosing instructions?
  6. I paid $230 for a 2217 Classic Eheim (normally $330) on special at Hollyood and at $140 odd for a CF1000 with a third of the warranty of the Eheim easy choice. Im not a gambling person so prefer a sure thing. One thing with the JBL is they come with a 4 year warranty, Eheim 3yr warranty, Aqua one 12 mth warranty. Ive always maintained the length of warranty reflects quality. The other consideration is made in Germanyfor the Eheim & JBL versus made in China for the Aqua One. I will be replacing my JBL crystal profi 500 with another 2217 when Hollywood specials them again.
  7. I have a 25cm Oscar with what appears to be HITH, been there about a week now, have dosed with salt @ 1 tblsp per20ltrs. I have 2 oscars in a 460ltr tank with a JBL crystal profi 500 and Eheim 2217 filters giving 2200ltrs per hour along with an Eheim aquaball powerhead. It did have a lot of gravel but when i salted the tank i removed the gravel to cut down on uneaten food being left to spoil. They have been in there for just over a year and the only other thing in the tank is a piece of driftwood. Reading up suggests something like Furan2 but treating 460ltrs with Furan2 is cost prohibitive. Is there anything else similar to Furan2 that will be cheaper and hopefully easily available and what are the chances of it working.
  8. I have a JBL crystal profi 500 and and Eheim 2217 on a 450ltr tank, JBL seems ok but the Eheim's much easier to clean and start again, had several eheims for a few years now, clean them occasionaly but ultra reliable, theres a 2213 Eheim on trade me at the moment usually $170 at Hollywood Fishfarm trader is willing to post as well. I have no experience with Aqua One's as i like the in at the bottom out at the top design of the classic eheims, no water bypass.
  9. Hi, the black pads in Aqua one tanks arent carbon just a course sponge. Leave it in there but take out the bag of carbon. Increasing the temp will make the whitespot go through their cycle faster speeding up the cure.
  10. Hi, a bit of stress coat may help but need to stop him being bullied, either a divider or another tank would be ideal. What are the tank dimensions and how many angels are there? I have 1 angel in a 750 ltr loach tank with a large fire eel. Would like more angels but mine doesnt get on with other angels so hes a loner .
  11. How deep is the gravel? I just took it all out of my oscar tank (4 buckets) because the leftover food was getting into the substrate and even with daily 90ltr water changes i couldnt keep up, but with no gravel (i think discus are happy in bare bottom tanks just doesnt look the nicest)about 20ltrs a day to suck up uneaten food is working wonders (brown algae on the back glass dying off now). You could say theres no such thing as to many water changes. I have heard of some discus keepers doing 90% daily as they are fussy with water quality. Bigger is always better as well, there have been a couple of AR980's on here for around $400 which are 215ltrs and more suitably sized. I have an AR850 and found the built in filter is only suitable for low-med stocking levels.
  12. I had something similar. I think you will find that the water keeps going milky because its built up in the filter. Another way to make a milky tank i found out is to tip over a JBL co2 setup. Found a tank so milky in the morning i couldnt see if any fish were dead or alive. I turned off the filter (AR850 with a trickle filter) did a 80% water change which cleared most of it up, started taking out dead fish that i could now see and filled it back up, this is whilst looking at the clock thinking shoulda been at work 20mins ago and trying to hurry, nearly out the door and dooh the filter so plugged it back in. Needless to say got home to a tank of milk again, turns out the milky crud was stuck in the filter so when i turned it on it mixed it again, took out the other dead fish and relagated 2 co2 units to the rubbish bin. I'd give both filters a good rinse out, which Eheims do you use? I have 4x2217's 2x2213's and 5 Aquaballs. Love the simplicity of the classics.
  13. Hi, i'd be doing a 50% water change (new water going in should be within a couple of degrees of tank water) and 25% daily tillits back to 0. The spike could be caused by a dead fish or most likely overfeeding. My Oscars are shocking eaters loosing heaps of food from their mouth and gills so i use a bare bottom tank, feed them daily and 1 hr after feeding they get a water change/food vac which keeps the water mint. What dimensions are the tank they are in and how many litres were you changing every second day, also what type of filtration do you use and whats the normal temp? Hope that helps Sorry to hear about loosing him.
  14. Rising oxygen bubbles disrupt the surface increasing oxygenation and will also help keep the surface clear of scum. I run air through Aquaball filters and have found it can make quite a difference. 250 odd med to large GBA in a 120ltr tank for the last couple of years will testify to that.
  15. They dont like to much nitrate either, seems to make them over produce slime, ive found the best way for healthy clowns is good feeding and plentiful water changes. I have 11 ranging from 6-22cm, my biggest will come to the surface for a pat and food. Them and an angel fish were the only survivors from a 38deg stuck on heater that killed a BGK and 4 adult GBA's so temps not a prob. Higher temp means less oxygen though so some form of air would be good.
  16. Who in Auckland stocks Tunze? Cheaper from Singapore but not sure if i can wait till June. Hollywood Mt Roskil?
  17. I see, the clips allow it to move...mmmm never an easy solution, spend more money LOL
  18. The tank is 1950x650x630 800ltrs, mainly a loach tank with a large fire eel, it has 2 Eheim 2217 cannisters (1000LPH each) at the top of one end and i'm thinking 2 of the 6025 with the small Tunze rocks to hide them in at the bottom of the other end to provide flow around rocks & driftwood, that will give 7000lph flow, so should do the trick nicely. Even better, my sister in law lives in Singapore so i can get her to bring them back in June The Seio's look good but thinking its hard to beat the size of the Tunze. With regards to the clips breaking is it possible to glue the magnet on or is the only solution replacement?
  19. Not really sure what sort im after, is their a site somewhere they can be compared, im looking for something small and around 2000 LPH. I have a couple of Aquaball 2212 's im using at the moment but they are way to big and the fish keep moving them around, so something smaller would be good, also like the idea of magnets that dont give up the ghost after a while.
  20. Im looking at getting a couple of powerheads for a large tank, are Hydor Koralia's available in NZ? Also any opinions/good points/bad points on Tunze & Seio power heads. Thanks in advance
  21. I now highly recommend either very regular check of temp or an alarm for moved or newly setup tanks. I moved my 4' in the lonuge to make room for a bigger tank, move went well, plugged it all back in thinking it was good before so should be again.......WRONG The following day when i got home from work i had a temp of 38 degrees in the tank, the heater had stuck on when i plugged it back in and cost me 2 breeding pairs of adult GBA's and the worst was my 40cm BGK  . (the loss of the BGK put tears in my eyes) For the sake of checking the temp before bed my fish would be alive, i check them all nightly now. Lesson learnt the hard way.
  22. Just to let people know that Clown Loaches aren't as fragile as some would think. I have 12 in 2 tanks the biggest about 20cm, 8 of them including the big one have been through a CO2 setup spill in an AR850 a couple of years ago which killed other loach species, angels and a 15CM BGK, they wern't happy but survived with no noticeable side effects. A week ago i moved my 4' loach tank in the lounge to make way for a much larger tank, the move went well with no probs until i got home the following night and went to feed, put my hand in the water and freaked, it was hot, a check of the thermometer revealed 38 degrees. I lost 2 adult pairs of GBA's and a 40cm BGK, all the clowns survived with a 70% water change to drop the temp to 30 degrees. I was shocked that the Clowns survived the temp and thought it may interest others here.
  23. Dixon, i know certain fly sprays, perfumes and some other aerosals play havoc with my asthma and would definetly suggest he stops using it for a month or so to see what difference it makes.
  24. I see no one has mentioned powder coated steel stands, i have a 500 and an 800 litre tank and never even thought of timber when steel is so much stronger and permanent, dead straight with no flexing and when powder coated theres no prob with water and you can easily clad it in timber. When thinking what 500+ litres of water would look like on my lounge floor not to mention the loss of fish, tank, filters, heaters etc a very easy choice/insurance.
  25. Snowman

    GBA with a spot

The fish you bought that has a black spot is as much GBA as any other GBA and if bred from should spit 99-100% GBA's
