Have you tried sitting it on something to make it higher off the ground? I know it shouldn't matter but I done the same with an eheim I have and it made a huge difference?

I just tie it on with some cheap cotton which is good as after a short time it rots away leaving the fern attached to the wood/rock by itself.

The filter has 3 baskets, each one being around 2ltrs volume I am guesstimating, actual filter volume being 7.3ltrs. Each basket measures around 200x200x50ish. I was thinking of running poret in the upper and bottom baskets leaving some ehfisubstrat between them, this way the foam is not a big solid mass and the substrat material should allow the foam to have multiple microbial layers?

Hmm just wondering man if poret will work as a replacement for the ehfisubstrat in my eheim 2229 as it is a wet/dry filter, any idea?

I used to go to Bahally and before that Springlands.

Just cleaned the eheim 2229 for the 1st time since setting it up, it didn't even need cleaned which amazes me as it has been going 24/7 for nearly 6 months from new! Guess the wet/dry function does actually improve biological breakdown.
