  1. That's the way I run mine as well. Seems to work so far, my plants start pearling about 2-3 hours after lights are on.
  2. You setting up another tank Sam?
  3. that sucks dude. Hope they are ok aswell.

  5. If you do get barbs from the LFS dude they should be fine, they do seem to go through quite a few of them and every time I see new stock turn up it always includes barbs. I bought the tigers I sold you from there and they were fine.
  6. What colour are fertilized eggs supposed to be? Their is around 100ish nice and white eggs that the male is guarding.
  7. Cheers Dan! Yeah I am hoping so as most of the ones that people have die on them are imported stock and as these are bred by you locally they should hopefully be fine!
  8. Yeah, I am not really expecting any to hatch and if they do I don't think they will get past the free swimming stage. I am just wondering for future spawns if they are successful.
  9. Substance abuse I would say.
  10. Also are RX7 and RS7 bulb types the same or has fishstreet.com just got it wrong with these bulb types? https://www.fish-street.com/150w_6700k_ ... ory_id=107
  11. This is what is printed on the bulb; 221704 HIT-DE 150dw UV-PROTECTED F-142446 Germany
  12. Well went and picked them up from Duniden on Friday and I was pleasantly surprised, all of the bulbs are brand new and it works perfectly, now I just need to figure out some way to suspend it 30-40cm above the tank as the only thing it is missing is the hanging kit, I just emailed the company in Australia that sells these to see if they can source me one. The light runs really silent considering that the ballasts are built into each end of the actual light which I was kind of skeptical of with heat etc. but after letting it run for 6 hours with all lights on it was still reasonably cold even in the 31c temp we had that day! Anyone know how to tell what k rating MH bulbs have? The 2 pl tubes are actinic blue so am wondering if the MH bulbs are for corals/marine aswell? Saying that the PL tubes do have markings which I take to mean they are at 7200k which I am not sure is even possible being blue light? Can't complain when they only cost me $49. Here is a pic of the unit;
  13. I recently purchased 12 blue rams from a member on here and was really surprised last night when I sat down to watch them that the 2 largest have decided to pair up and spawn already, I think they are only about 4 months old and are still quite small (1.5cm max) They still haven't developed all of their nice colours yet and are all together in a 70ltr tank that I set up for my Apsitogramma Trifasciata which are spawning aswell, I am hoping that they will be fine in there at the moment as I don't really have enough tank space in my other tanks yet to separate them as getting rid of swordtails seems to be quite hard down here. What I am wondering is is it usual for them to spawn when they are this young/small and if they do raise some fry will it be ok to raise them with the trifasciata fry in the same tank feeding them the same food? I will of course remove both pairs of cichlids at the same time so that one of the pair doesn't eat the others young. I will try to get some decent photos later when I feed them.
  14. Bit early to be on the booze isn't it Ant?
  15. I heard cat food is ok aswell fishguy.
  16. Here's my input, since I started fishkeeping awhile ago every single fish I have purchased from the LFS - except for some neons and 2 male pearl gourami, have all died within a really short period of time after purchase. All of the fish I keep now have all been bred in NZ locally and are all really healthy and active. All my water perimeters are fine and within the suggested range for the fish I keep and yes all of my heaters work and I have separate gear for all 4 tanks. I haven't noticed any scales missing but I do have the other symptoms that you guys seem to be having, there has to be some common denominator here surely! I am beginning to wonder if all the fish we are losing have come from the same supplier/importer? I am pretty sure that Wonderworld in Rotorua is our LFS supplier but don't quote me on that, they wouldn't tell me when I just rang them as they don't want me cutting out the middle man so to speak, even after I told them why I wanted it.
  17. Is it some sort of baby ray?
