  1. :sage: Congratulations Grandma! :slfg:
  2. Add some more glass cats, they will feel more comfortable being in a decent sized group. Also keep an eye on the red tail shark, it may start hassling them.
  3. Put it this way, I wouldn't want to be sitting in front of the tank for prolonged periods of time and I'd keep children away from it......
  4. I've seen some pretty knowledgeable african keepers off this very forum recommend to new keepers similar stocking levels in tanks around the same size countless times.
  5. I reckon you will be fine Michelle, as with most Africans the key to less aggression is over stocking so you shouldn't have any issue there. You have a really good sized filter which helps when keeping a large amount of fish in a tank this size, it's no more than I have seen in other members tanks of around the same dimensions.
  6. Geisemann, barking buddies sell them.
  7. I don't see anywhere where he says he has wilds?
  8. You have a canister filter, not a sump. Generally I recommend only cleaning canisters when there is a noticeable loss of flow but every couple of months works too. You can buy a hose cleaning brush kit to clean the hoses when needed. When cleaning the actual canister it is a good idea to not clean/replace all the filter media at one time, 1/3rd is what I recommend. Also, make sure you only rinse the media in water you have removed from the tank for a water change, this is to make sure you don't have a huge beneficial bacteria die off and start a fresh cycle. Having the spray bar above the surface is good as it will disturb the surface which will help with oxygenation.
  9. Hope you're saving up for a chiller, will definitely need one on a tank that size.
  10. Copper sulphate will if done right.
  11. You may want to check what voltage the solenoid runs on as the USA use a different voltage than here in NZ. Also I'm pretty sure you will need some sort of adapter to connect it to a NZ bottle as I think we use different thread sizes too?
  12. Definitely, kribs are like the platys of the cichlid world.

    Hi all

Howdy, you've come to the right place for information.
  14. The kribs will be fine with discus, but not so much with the rams.
  15. Spend some time exploring Queen Charlotte Sounds, my favorite place in NZ.
  16. They are a schooling fish by nature so do better in groups just like most cichlids, nothing to do with age. They like a lot of swimming room so that is why a small hex tank isn't suitable.
  17. A 90ltr hex tank is not suitable for an angel, also they should be kept in groups of 5-6 unless you're breeding them.
  18. It's really something all you new native keepers need to consider before removing the fish from the wild, seems kind of cruel if you can't supply them with the proper conditions because of money issues.
