  1. +1 then as little by little waste builds up the BB starts to build up in the filter. You could stick some substrate in the filter so it can easily expand to the filter media?
  2. In a planted tank most people don't gravel vacuum due to it disturbing the plants roots. I'm not sure what detritus does for plants though. All I can think of it may supply nitrates to the plants? IME I find that detritus doesn't build up on sand if you have adequate filtration. In my turtle tank there is no plants not even java moss anymore. It's 200L and has a Sunsun 2000L/h filter and I don't get much detritus build up anywhere, except where the driftwood block the flow and it build up. Easy because you can just vacuum that spot to get all the surface waste. The java moss used to get clogged with shedding skin and then I can remove it and wash it. It would never be fully clean though.
  3. It's like saying the bottom of your room is covered in waste and junk, but the oxygen is fine. It will be nicer for them to live with less detritus. Again, the more fish, the more cleaning. I used to get it too when I had gravel in my turtle tank (later learned it caused impaction so it was removed and replaced with sand) and I find sand is much cleaner. You can buy 20kg bags from mitre 10 for $10 which I found cheap.
  4. Nipped fins normally lead to fin rot. Fin rot usually is white on the edges of the fin, whereas nipped fins normally are not.
  5. Hi Try this site and try to deduce if it's bacterial or fungus. I too heard that you can't use salt with BNs. So you may have to try an antibiotics. Just scroll down to fin rot. http://faq.thekrib.com/disease-fw.html HTH

    Umm it's tiny, about a 1L 13cm diameter and 8cm height.
  9. If it looks hazy maybe add a very fine filter wool or sponge and see if that helps clear it up
  10. I've seen a stick on background at the LFS with a rock like background, like stacked slate. Not sure but it probably wasn't 600 high.
  11. How longs the tank been set up? I'm running a Sunsun 304 2000L/h on a 200L and it's crystal clear.

  14. But when you download PS1 games it is illegal. Essentially the same problem as downloading music illegally. That's most likely why apple doesn't allow it.
  15. Yeah, I wouldnt take them to the disputes tribunal. Bit too far, especially because they were just trying to help. I get my neighbor or my mate who has a turtle to come around and feed every second day and put the amount I want them to feed on a piece of paper. I went away for two weeks over Xmas and all there was, was algae on the glass. No green water, no food accumulation. It may be worth it to invest in a automatic feeder if you travel quite often.

Iwagumi? Sorry I dont know whats up with my image coding so couldnt get the picture
  17. I never change my heaters temperature, I normally have it at 26C. Even during summer it never gets over 28C. Do you have a thermometer on the tank? If its too hot maybe do a gradual(slowly) cold water change, therefore lowering the temperature without shocking the fish. If you were to provide a picture of the fish in your other thread it may help with the ID.

  20. http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/fishfood/microworms.php Simple as, Cook porridge and cool Add microworm starter culture Add sprinkle of yeast Put it all in a ice cream container, punch a few holes in the lid with a nail Wait a day (normally 3ish) but stick it in the hot water cupboard to speed it up a little. Feed.
  21. Microworms. Nice and easy to maintain. My culture needs to be reset at the moment, so I am unavailable to give you any, but there are plenty of people out there with them. Try put a post on the WTB section. I'm not going to tell you how you want to live your life. :smot:
  22. Ok thanks And I can't agree with native lover more.
  23. Yes, I realize that now but never knew the reason for it. Can I ask what you are supposed to do with captive frogs you no longer want? I gave my latest ones to a friend with a pond.
