    One Tank

My 1700x560x580 (second hand, the tank is a little bit bigger) was $350 w/o stand but had a filter and a 1500 double light . Plus stand costs  Sounds like Adrienne got a good price because my stand (no clue on what the wood was) with a steel stand cost about three times plus the amount she paid including her tank. It was new though (custom made) and very nice  I found it to be a good price though, because at retail my four foot tank cost $220 without anything...
  2. No real implications, I buy plats for him so he gets some greenery and has something to play with. Sometimes eats them sometimes doesn't, always rips them out though. Not really, poops more than any fish I've seen in an aquarium, but they seem to clean up their excretement
  3. Thanks, What makes him happy makes me happy  Haha mum and dad didn't like the proposal of a pond in the front lawn, so I ended up with a tank (probably would've been more cost effective in the long run, I mean that's one less bit of the lawn you don't have to mow! :slfg: ). I Thought about cichlids but decided they are not for me (too big? Idk but danios are like a smaller nicer version IMO) I should get round to adding a heat lamp in, but I figure it's mid 20s (25-27C) inside during the day (during summer, due to good insulation, and that part of the house getting sun (when it's here) about 8 hours a day), so about that in the tank as well (which is about right for basking temperatures). He seems to be basking everyday, and drying out, so I figure he's ok for the moment until I get round to buying one (when I get some more cash $!), would probably be good in there over winter as well. Plus there's quite a bit of lighting in there at the moment (emitting some heat) keeping him toasty  I sometimes seem to question heat lamps, as in the wild it wouldn't always be 27C maybe a few times a month (depending on season) here , but I can see how it is beneficial.
  4. BB Gobies are brackish though? How many liters is the bowl?
  5. :sage: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=51648&p=562984&hilit=pinkies#p562984 I'm sure theres more, just use the search function
  6. After a water change, I added a background and a few plants 5 minutes later
  7. I has small pieces and they took about 3 weeks
  8. :dunno: bought them at Pet Essentials today, they're sitting in a bucket ATM. They were submersed there
  9. Hi all I was wondering if anyone could ID These plants for me? And if they're legal or not? Thanks
  10. Few people discussing the topic (getting off topic) on a new members post.
  11. Cool  we find these all the time at our grandparents house in Hamilton
  12. Two turtles=2 times the water (well you could get away with a 100G). Also, if you end up with two males you would have to separate them, due to aggression. They can't be sexed when born (to my understanding :dunno: ) so it's something to keep in mind if you're getting two. Remember the footprint of the tank is more important than the height. You do have to have some height but not too deep. They're awesome pets and have a lot of character.
  13. I do. Only one though. Maybe consider adopting one from Donna? It generally means the whole tank. But you can have the water level as high as you want (depending on height of UVB tube). The more swimming space the better  Feel free to ask any more questions
  14. Susswassertang :sage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Süsswassertang
  15. I think there is a freshwater seaweed under susswassertang on wiki :sage: :slfg:
  16. It doesn't matter someone can learn from another's knowledge, you seem to know a lot about fish and diseases and a lot more to be honest  Can I ask what you are qualified in?
  17. They prefer cool water of streams which is about 8C here. You asking too much to get them above 25C because theyve spent thousands of years adapting to the NZ climate.
  18. The LFS has pottles with the holes in them. Maybe an idea?
  19. You sure you're sucking on the right tube? It sounds like it has one of those no return bits.
  20. So there must be a leak somewhere. By you say you can't syphon it all, do you mean no air will come through or no water will Come up (when pulling water through the tubes)?
