  1. I disagree with sheepnana with the tank size. I mean you can keep a dwarf puffer very happy in a 40L. Depends on species IMO. But I think even guppy fry like that shouldn't be in a what 1L tank? I have jars bigger than that.
  2. I was wondering about it today, as a local has some and I thought I would try and breed them for maintenance for the tank. But do they pose any risk (ie worms, choking, diseases ect) to turtles (or even clown loaches/puffers)? Just one of the things to ponder while bored :bounce: I can't wait to set up my new tank :happy2: I have gotten a stand made by Port Nicholson Glass via the LPS. This things solid (steel framed) and looks nice. Better than anything I could have made by myself. The tank itself is about 540L. It will most likely be filled somewhere from 350-400L though. Its made from 10mm Glass and has 3 top braces and bottom braces. It has a rating of 2.7 just the glass. To my understanding the online calculator doesn't factor in braces? So would this be strong enough? I have a Sunsun HW304 (2000L/h about 25-30L of media). Will this cover the filtration? Its pretty much new. Ive always pondered ( this word ) about how the bio media will die when shifting to a bigger tank. Due to no increase in waste, and having a larger body of water (ie more dilute ammonia) this means that not all the bacteria can feed on the bio load now. Air go some die? Or will some just become dormant. If they do become dormant it could be quite beneficial to the tank due to if there is any new occupants added then the filter will just cope. Also lighting. I got a light fixture with the tank (looks like a DIY thing) and its a little bit rusty. Would you bother checking it? I have no clue if its just going to blow up unexpectedly. I understand this would require me to take it to an electrician to get checked (and fixed if necessary). Or should I just buy a new one(+ideas on where to get a new 4' light? i have one so I could just double it up)? Lastly what temperature do other turtle owners keep their tanks set at? I have mine set at 26C which is a little high but at night it drops to about 24C. Cheers all! TGIF :happy1: Yes I know they create waste as well, so please don't lecture me on it.
  3. How about a nice fighter (Betta Splendens)? You could find some appropriate wood and get Java Moss (or Xmas Moss) to attach to in and scape it. Then have some gravel, and a background and foreground plant. Would be low tech so low lighting, nutrients and CO2. If you feel like a school of something I quite fancy emerald Rasboras.
  4. It may be cheaper online, but if you buy local, then it supports the local community as well. Because they then have the money to go purchase something ect.
  5. Cheers for the idea, but I have no old car speakers or speakers really.
  6. Yeah I saw them too. But I much prefer to "try" the magnets before hand. To see if they actually are strong enough. So preferably in Wellington. But I don't want it so strong it doesn't adjust to the water level.
  7. The dock floats, but the magnets hold it against the glass, and stop it from wobbling too much when he gets on.
  8. Hi I'm after some stronger magnets for my basking dock. It's struggling with 6mm glass, so I'm after two stronger permanent magnets. In theory when you double up a permanent magnet it becomes stronger? Yeah anyway after two, able to go through 10mm glass. Thanks

:happy2: new tank stands ready :happy2: going to pick it up tomorrow. Only thing is that my money is still stuck in SGD as the NZD is quite strong at the moment. So dad said he'll cover it till it comes back to about 1:1.

Is there any laws that would not allow me to put up photos from the Qian Hu Fish Farm? They seemed to be very iffy of me taking photos, and wouldn't allow me to take photos of the stock. I had an awesome time in Singapore, but now back to NZ and piled with school work to catch up. And a few Acheivement Standards next week. Oh well :dunno: :slfg:
  12. Tiny compared to some Red tailed catfish I saw these were 1m+ :sage:
  13. @Zayne, is yours white? I went to mega a few weeks ago but all they had was the play sand, which is multicolored.

    filter

How bigs this tank for 4 FX5s? I've never had either filter (yet) but I was looking into the Nautilus 2700. An 8 vs 4 is better IMO because if one breaks down and 8 are running it's still filtering at 87.5% of the maximum filtration (8 2700s). And if one FX5 goes down its only filtering at 75% of the maximum filtration (4 FX5s). With me? I'm unsure of power consumption so that's another thing to look into. Also because 8 2700s are more likely turning over more water per hour you get more gas exchange ect. But which one is more reliable? Also where will they sit? Can you fit 8 under the tank? Because most likely you will be able to fit 4 FX5s. Ultimately it's your decision, but those are some thing for you to ponder when making a decision.

  21. Maybe Zayne wants some? I check fish room daily just give me a bell if you want some. On this topic or PM me.
  22. Cheers, so it's $20 for 50L? I might be Pushing the bag limits with three shoes boxes and clothes! But I'll see what I can do. Come to think of it he may have got it from Malaysia, because it was thank you in Malay. I'm not going back there anytime soon. Cost $2 for a bus there, we changed some money had a snack and changed our money back... Wasn't much to see
  23. :sage: I'm here now, I can't quite see the shop name... If you could give me some details on where it is I could check it out for you depending on location, what were doing ect. Keeping in mind that one nzd is one sgd so that Packet cost $19 unsure on how much you are needing ect. I assume this is for a sump of some sort ? Why not just get some egg crate and some normally media so the egg crate holds it up making it float? Is it called terima kasih? I googled it and couldn't find much

Hello from Singapore! Man it's muggy here. Heaps of people, and there was a reptile shop. It was closed but I'll try again tomorrow. Plus free wifi in room!
