  1. I'm off to bed so no more from me
  2. Ira and I are there... https://chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.nzdance.net&channel=%23aquaria
  3. All the ones sold are farmed, and with certs aren't they?
  4. Some sort of midge or sandfly larvae/pupa? Video: Edit: got a photo or two
  5. It will be adding about 2cm in head? 4m of head of fresh water in a 20mm pipe would weigh about 5.026kg water at sg of 1.20 would weigh about 6.032kg water at sg of 1.22 would weigh about 6.132kg would an extra 100 grams make all that much difference?
  6. It is, but the permit isn't all that hard to get
  7. by hair algae I guess you mean: Or the long tangled mess? I have heard of the short algae being used for nitrate removal
  8. Sounds interesting. use a img host (flicker/google+/imageshack/etc) and then use the img tags above
  9. no fry in my minnow tank that I removed the adults from the otherday, but there has been a population explosion of sum little bug/worm/larvae grey and about 3-4mm long, sort of looks like a miniature mosquito larvae :dunno:
  10. That's cool to see that there are undiscovered populations of mudfish around, such weird looking little things. Found a good sized bed of Kakahi a few months, with lots of them sub 50mm. This was from a lake where the only natives are bullies and eel (no koaro that I know of), there are trout, rudd and catfish. I'm wondering if catfish make a good host as I have seen another population of freshwater mussel in another lake that has a high catfish population?
  11. search "aquatic nematode"
  12. Yes, would be much more interesting 500 wide and 300 high - that wound make for a fabulous 'stream'
  13. I wish my substrate and driftwood would stay as cyano free as that
  14. I dont have a sump on my system (native freshwater) but do run a 3200l/h pump for flow and mechanical filtration, this is plumbed in-line and is sitting on the windowsill behind the tank. This has saved a lot of heat going back into the tank if I had of had it running internal.
  15. Seemed like a good cheap fixture, got the wrong colored bulb, might get another fixture and 2 x 23W 5000K bulbs I was running a 23w cool daylight until i dropped the whole thing in the tank. fixture still works but I only had a warm daylight bulb, nowhere near as good
  16. I'm surprised that my chiller is still running most days, just shows how much heat goes into a system from powerheads/filters/wavemakers/lights etc
  17. man those kokopu are looking fat. I'll agree that they, in my case giant kokopu, can sure grow. Homer (waddled as when caught he had 2/3 of his tail missing) was about 90 - 100mm when caught about 7 months ago, managed to catch him by accident the other day when trying to move a few of the bullies so gave him a measure - now a beefy 170mm The tank is looking nice
  18. Congrats if I didn't say it the other day on IRC I've just moved my minnows from the 2ft to the ~50l planted so I hope to see some fry in the 2ft'er in the next few days
  19. there was always the IRC 'chatroom', not that many people used that
