  1. Video of fry feeding on a 1/4 algae tab, sorry about the white balance. Mods, this could be moved into freshwater or the native section. I posted in this section for an ID but it is a freshwater tank
  2. That is why I said I don't know if you want it more accurate. I dont know how accurate the controller is on my chiller, it doesn't have 1/10 deg on the display but the tank never varies by more than about .2 deg by the two digital thermometers in it
  3. http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/other-electronics/electronic-components/other/auction-474702740.htm Same model but cheeper. So it looks like it will switch mains ok without a relay. Dont know if you want it more accurate though?
  4. It will need to hardwired, this is just a normal temp controller for hot rooms/chillers etc Some will switch a relay others will have full AC switching built in
  5. A well running filter should only need minimal cleaning. ie just the wool/fine sponge maybe every 2 months and never clean more than 1/3 of the media. The media just needs to be dipped/ shaken in tank water once every 6? months.
  6. I would remove at least the ramp, maybe even the landing. I have found the best way to cut the silicon is it drag some braided fishing line through the joints with a gentle sawing motion.
  7. There are also a few beekeepers in the IT world, what does that make me, a beekeeper/fishkeeper/passing interest in IT*? * Got UK qualifications but never entered into the field...
  8. no Swamp lily, about 3/4 the way down the page.
  9. first one Ottelia ovalifolia http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-science/aquatic-biodiversity-and-biosecurity/our-services/aquaticplants/outreach/species/submerged second one fallen willow leaves :sml1:
  10. Welcome say something like 2.1x900x600 Mark?
  11. I have lost the two males with the darkest fins in the last week &c:ry Put them in a separate tank to breed, just a male and a female, and two days latter no male. Add another of the dark fin males and again gone by the next day. All that I can think of is that they went through the 1000l/h pump that returns water to the tank above. Bottom tank is almost like a sump to the planted tank above that I'm going to try and get shrimp to breed in.
  12. I believe that most (all?) fish can get whitespot, but some seem a lot more susceptible. Be careful not to stick the temp up too much, and remember that you don't have to up the temp
  13. Just an update on how the mullet are doing, one has died today and another is very thin and I doubt will make it. These two are the only two (out of the 8 that survived the trip/new home/first 2 days/etc) that have not taken to eating algae tabs. They don't seem to like green algae but love brown algae (diatoms) and have taken to the algae tabs well and are mostly keeping weight on after loosing a fair bit in the first week or so. Now that they are eating well it will be interesting to see how fast they grow.
  14. It wants me to have nigh on two hundred watts of lighting, I have 36w of cold cathode + 8w compact fluorescent, for my 4'x2'x2'
  15. That is what I would do, take one of the smaller filters from the angle tank and place in the guppy tank and keep the EHIEM 2010 filter running in the new guppy tank An do ~30% w/c each day
  16. :smot: I wouldn't trust a 1200x600mm high tank in less than 10mm glass. The lid for my tank (1200x600x600 in 10mm glass) is a neat fit when the tank is empty and wont come off when full, so even with 10mm glass there is a fair amount of bow in the glass
  17. I doubt the carbon will take anything out that will effect the pH at this stage but the flow should mean better 'contact' so more comes out of the concrete thus increasing the pH. I would change the water daily untill the pH has lowered a bit more, then move to every few days. I think I can remember reading that it can take weeks for the pH to stabilise from a new cement background.
  18. Thought as much... and nitella isn't? I have one that is the the typical (as in the pics on the fnzas plant DB) and another that is much less defined and more tangled looking. The one in the second pic is more algae looking, less structured but still looks to branch. I'll grow it in a small container and see what it comes out like.
  19. Yes it was quite rigid and firm when I grabbed it
  20. Is this the banned oxygen weed (from Taupō)? And is this a Nitella spp, and what (also from Taupō)?
