  1. I have just built/rescaped a little standard 2ft (50 odd L) aquarium for my two little hillstream loaches. I hope that they enjoy it, they aren't in there yet, waiting for a bit more algae growth. I has more flow than my small torrent fish tank, that has about 500l/h flow in another 2ft tank. This new setup has a +3000l/h pond pump turning over the water. This really pushes the water around, and small rocks/gravel. It still needs a few more rocks that I'll grab either one evening or on the weekend from a localish stream. Watch id HD to see the flow of bubbles:
  2. And here is the resaulting photo: /me waits for today's update...
  3. You're not committed enough then This is how you take close-ups (and yes, I did get wet knees):
  4. I was waiting for them to mention the lakes/rivers last week on the "Great Rift" program
  5. I'm stripping down one of my 2ft tanks that is lightly planted and am going to make a stream tank for my Gastromyzon scitulus. I was planning to just have a few plants at the end with the least flow but most of the plants have some staghorn on them. What is the best way to get rid of this algae off the plants?
  6. I wonder if Stella would be intrested, it would be a great little camera for shooting natives in-stream
  7. show off :nfs: I would go with the theory of an introduced disease with trout, this is what is theorised on their decline/decimation in Oz isn't it?
  8. just because black studded pvc is the first thing to come to your mind Ira it doesn't mean it is the only use of the word
  9. If you aim for whitebait wait untill they are in season
  10. They do seem to spend all their time grazing. They dont seen to eat the short green algae, only diatoms (and maybe green dust?). They also ate algae wafers, but not in huge amounts. They may do better in a native saltwater setup :dunno:
  11. I have only lost smelt and they stress very easy, as an example you will often have 1/2 die within the first 24h of aquarium life.
  12. What did you expect, I wanted an id on a possible saltwater fish that comes into freshwater. They haven't done well in an aquarium, onle 2 left.
  13. Not my fault you cant read :digH: Whole thread about them here, at first asking for an ID: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=58392&p=632603 And then a mention here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=58439
  14. I cant see any surviving and I dont really have a spare tank to place her in unless I move the grey mullet or the small redfin bullies to the main tank (just might do that...)
  15. After losing fish for the second time I now use conditioner. the second time was only a 40-50% water change, I have always done good 30-40% changes and not had issues till a few weeks ago
  16. if you want to morph onyou are more than welcome to feed them my mother-in-law, she is on thyroxin :digH:
  17. One of the wifes in some weird Manawatu love tryst? Why else would the police charge them if they didn't do it :digH:
  18. give me a pm next month and I'll grab some then. They are from a road cutting not too far from my old place
  19. so you have one point of failure, and no backup?
  20. Koura are mostly scavengers but will eat most live food if they can catch it, worms etc. My two get the occasional pea but otherwise just eat what the other native fish eat in the tank, ie high quality pellets, beef (ox) heart and FD krill (if I can buy it).
  21. +1 if the focal length is short enough I would recommend taking the photo as close to parallel to the glass as possible to limit distortion from the glass, gets worse with thicker glass as well.
  22. Zara, I think I can get some ok rocks if you want me to bring some on wed night, what sort of size do you want?
