  1. Good tip  I recently tried Azolla filiculoides (Water Fern?) and it was a big failure! all died within days. Either the temp is too warm or not enough light.
  2. What kind of filtration & light will you use?
  3. Wow! Super nerdy :smln: but awesome! I love it!
  4. Those products are quite expensive and you can achieve the same result with leaves, wood, alder cones, indian almond leaves, etc.. You can also put some spagnum moss in a net and place them in your filter. Cheap and makes your water as black as you want. If you ever go past snowplanet, the carpark there is jam packed with alder trees (where alder cones comes from) that you can pick at certain times during the year. On the Geos my experiences is that a tank your size would be too small for a group of G. altifrons (surinamensis) and if you only had 2-3 aggression could become a problem. With S. leucosticta (jurupari) however (like david suggested) you could easily house 4-5 in that tank. They are smaller and more peaceful and get along well with all other fish, even the small ones. Having said all that I think your idea of smaller fish only is really good. Have you considered hatchet fish?
  5. This is my favorite biotope. Typical setup would include sand substrate, lots of branches and a lot of leaf litter.
  6. That is such a great setup! That middle Geo is HUGE! and the flock of tetras zipping back and forth is just awesome. Bet you are happy you made a small fish friendly setup?
  7. Sorry to hear about your loss. sucks! I'm interested in how the Weipro mx1022 failed. You say the relay got stuck but the element is turned on and off by the controller right? So did the controller fail or did the temperature probe? or?
  8. I've also been getting this magazine in hardcopy for a while now so a big +1 to what you said David. I really love how they pick a certain topic and then really dig deep in it. e.g. the angelfish one where I think there are over 40 pages over various articles only about angels.
  9. On the list or not I think you are right!
  10. Looks good in tank. Good job!
  11. Looking bloody good mate! Good job!
  12. Flakes have a very big surface area pr weight so the goodies like vitamins etc dissolve into the water much quicker before the fish actually eats the flakes. Pellets are much more compact so keeps in the goodies better until the fish eats it. From personal experience and what seems to be many opinions worldwide is that New Life Spectrum is some of the best food available. Local fish shops here don't seem to sell it anymore but you can usually buy some on TM from people that buy bulk overseas.
  13. I use my iPhone with either apple maps or google maps.. both have traffic data and will choose fastest way depending on traffic.
  14. So it is the actual aquarium water circulating in the plumbing getting heated? not a heat exchange system?
  15. I haven't but would love to follow your progress with it
  16. So the question is: Will Caryl continue to rescue every single batch and having to set up 10 growout tanks and start an angel factory? or... let nature take care of it and let them become food.
  17. I recently bought this pack: http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=190975238098 Comes with 2 x 300w SS heaters and a great price I reckon
  18. Have you done a big water change yet? if not do one now!
  19. Unless it's really fine the Red Humps won't like gravel, i.e. fine enough to eject through gills. They like sand.
