Hi Barrie, I have a Hailea V30 Air pump that I bought on TradeMe. So far I am happy with the quality and noise level. I think that would do what you would need it to.

Clown Loaches Schmown Loaches... I don't think it will solve your real issue of tank location.. but of course will give you that initial excitement of starting a new project.

Thanks yeah I left them with the parent for quite a while. Funny you said only the male would hold yours.. In my pair only the female would hold them. I initially had 20ish but they are now down to 7 strong little 1cm fish that are now separated from the parents and doing well. Parents are slowly getting ready for next spawn I think which I hope will be more successful. The first spawn was very awkward. Female trying to attach the eggs to the bottom glass (not very successful) and the male doing his stuff up against a rock. Not very coordinated, hehe. hence the very low hatch rate. As for swapping I am certainly not against it but just think all our fish most likely comes from the same source (perhaps even pair) overseas so would not create much genetic diversity anyway no matter how much we swap around.

Great looking fish. Deep rich colours. Very nice! I don't think your attention span is particularly short. I know exactly what you are talking about regarding interest. For me it has always been about the journey and not so much about the end result so as soon as a new project is finished the first thing I want to do is change it. I've gone through a similar phase in the last year where the big tank was just on an auto feeder and all I did with it was do a water change sometimes. Lately my interest have sparked up again, it happened when the new geos started spawning and now I just want to breed all my fish again. So it comes and goes. Watching youtube clips can be really helpful in sparking interest again I've found. I agree a change is in order but something like native marine would be a B&#%!* for your tank. I think a better idea is to try to get that tank placed in you living room wall instead of in a room by itself. I'm sure it's possible somehow. I can help with drawings etc. if you need. Good luck and keep in mind I have around 20-30 baby G. "Tapajos Orange Head" swimming around in my tank at the moment and I'm sure there are more to come.

Don't want to hijack your post but my pair have finished their first spawn. Hundreds of eggs were laid on a vertical piece of wood but with 20+ bristlenoses in the tank needless to say the eggs didn't last the night. Now the pair are in their own tank ready for next round. Have already begun cleaning a rock.

No spawns that I've seen yet. But I have a feeling two of them have paired up so will try to put them in their own tank and see what happens. Hard to tell what they are up to cos every time I come into the room the all come flying up to the glass wanting food. hehe

Yes I have. G. altifrons and G. steindachneri I currently have some G. sp "Orange Head" that I hope will also breed. They are quite easy to breed actually, just keep them in a properly sized tank with sand and treat them well and they will pair and breed happily when mature. Lots of info online on how to keep the different Geophagus species

A more accurate species name for these is Geophagus altifrons. So you should research that name. Note that they do become rather large when adult (25cm+) so tank size and especially footprint size is important. When mature they can become quite territorial toward other geos so have that in mind too. Awesome fish!

Great to see your video fishyNZ. Yes I still have 7 of these (also from Redwood) and they now look similar to the ones in your video so hoping for some paring up soon. Did you see the spawning take place? What did they lay their eggs on and did they take the eggs into the mouth immediately? Cheers
