  1. That's what I do - less chance of spillage too.
  2. Great pics Joe. Extreme patience Judy!!! Is that the new shop they have there? Where is it?
  3. Great pics! I glanced at the 2nd one and thought you had built a tank on the back of a small truck or ute  :slfg:
  4. Oh no! Having to talk to, and spend time with, the spouse!!! :nilly: Tank is looking lovely and I like the dinghy that adds another dimension
  5. Good to hear from you again acara, even if it is to gloat over us :slfg:

I remember the days when most of us did not have TV's and the ones that did - only black and white
  7. In our experience it is more expensive because most US companies insist on using UPS and don't trust their postal system. If you can convince them to go postal (not meaning to be funny there  ) it is cheaper
  8. You are on the list Alan so it shouldn't be too far away. I think the high photo content has helped with this issue. There are a lot of great pics being taken these days and I am grateful to those who send them to me, along with an article. My magazine arrived to day too. I LOVE getting mine in the mail like everyone else  I would like to say a big thank you too to Stuart and Kingsland Print who do such a marvelous job of the printing. The presentation looks so much more professional now and he manages to balance the colour and contrast well, considering the wide range of quality he has to work with. PS. Why do I only spot some mistakes, AFTER it has been printed, no matter how carefully I have proofread it and those mistakes leap out at me immediately I get my good copy. I have found 3 so far. One spelling typo, one heading stuff-up and a line where it shouldn't be
  9. Dulux make a product called AcraTex that sparays on and looks like sand. You used to be able to get stuff in small spray cans to decorate plant pots, I remember using it years ago. I am pretty sure we sprayed the back of my son's whitebait tank with it and it looked great.
  10. And I know a lot of hours have been spent compiling the quiz so make it worth the effort and attend!
  11. Depends on the age of the house. Best to put tanks over 4ft crosswise to the main joists and against a load bearing wall. We have wooden floors and have never considered the tank weight (280kg) to be a problem (although I think there is an extra pile under our main tank as it was where the fireplace was to originally go). Think of the weight of 3 or 4 large footy boys sitting on your sofa then think of the tank weight. Do you have a large chest freezer? Have you ever had it full? I imagine, if you had, it would weigh more than even a large aquarium.

House stinks again as last coat of polyurethane has gone onto the new window frames. In case anyone is interested, it did not occur to me to do anything to the tank that is in the same room as the work being done but the fish are fine. Went swimming with friends this morning, then we sat in the spa pool to warm up further before enjoying a nice lunch at Chequers Cafe and Bar  Am now shut in the computer room to try and reduce the smell from the other end, while looking for stuff to put in the next AW magazine.
  13. Are you talking about something other than microworms or brine shrimp?
  14. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=59840 I don't think hoplos care too much about ratios.
  15. That is a good example of "using your noodle" :slfg:
  16. Fish keeping - you're doing it wrong :slfg:
  17. If you do a search you will find quite a few
  18. It isn't a fish breeding competition, it is for the fish breeding certificates for the competition
  19. Wash your mouth out Sophia! Besides, Joe is an excellent baker himself and often provides goodies for club meetings

The Foxy Morons won Quiz Night tonight :happy1: :happy2: :bounce:
  21. I have various sized poly boxes here Joe. Doesn't one of your tanks have a light attached to a high fixture? Can't you put the container on the tank lid so it is under the tank light?
  22. So the albino BNs are in a different tank to the one where the common BNs were dying? 8 in a 50L is waaay too many!
  23. Ira's favourite (and a common) spelling error :slfg: The original fish, once discovered in their natural habitat, were promptly wiped out as they were grabbed for the aquarium trade. They can only now be found in captivity. There are cheaper, more pale, versions from elsewhere available here.
