  1. My Africans lived in, and bred, at 7.0. The breeder I got them from initially also kept all his Africans in 7.0 as that was what came out of his taps and he said he did not want to muck about altering the pH as he was breeding on a large scale and doing many water changes.
  2. Sounds like the Southland fish club has already had its first meeting!

Making my own was quick and easy and a lot cheaper than buying them I was very pleased as it was a first effort. I might try experimenting with toppings in future !drool:

Ah, I thought cheese went on top. I will try your suggestion next time. It might have stopped some of the things from sliding off :smln: I assume you buy the bases? I made my own.

I made a pizza tonight. As those who know me can attest, I do not know a lot about pizzas and have only even eaten them a few times in my life. I found a recipe for the base that does not use yeast then added stuff from the fridge and freezer. The result was delicious!! I even got a compliment from Grant (very rare indeed) who claimed it was better than the gourmet pizzas in the supermarket deli. Here 'tis... It had a tomato relish spread over the base with green peppers, onion, mushroom, tomato, left-over cooked chicken, bacon and a bit of Edam cheese grated on top 8)

I enjoyed Brave yesterday 8) I don't think Ted is my kind of film and I am not in the demographic to which is is geared :slfg:
  7. Grant and I have been waiting 2 years for a hand reared quaker but the breeder's pair have not been obliging. Where did you get this one Henward and how old is it?
  8. If he was putting it in with discus one wonders what other things he does regarding fish keeping, water quality etc. :dunno: I am assuming you were unaware he was going to add it to a discus tank so could not warn him against doing so?
  9. I think I meant to put "Hi and welcome" :gigl:
  10. Hi Dan. I hope you enjoy your time here.
  11. Welcome. Good to hear you moved first then bought the new tank
  12. You have plenty now to start. If you wait for people to come to you then you are going to be disappointed. Read my sticky above this thread on how to start a club
  13. Java reproduces by sending up plantlets from those brown spots, or from where you cut it off. You can also encourage new growth by snapping or cutting the roots, or snapping leaves in half. It does not mind being left to float about or you can anchor it down if you prefer. Sometimes it helps to leave them floating until they grow enough roots long enough to slip under a rock, notch in some driftwood, or whatever.
  14. Not with the slower goldfish species as they could not catch them. The goldfish I saw were very large specimens and they totally ignored the minnows zipping about in the 5ft tank.
  15. Yes it depends on the type of goldfish. I have seen minnows living happily with fantails as they could not catch them.
  16. Great to see a decent shoal of shoaling fish
  17. He can bring in the aquarium equipment whether it is used or new. It is live stuff that is a no-no (or meds)
  18. You can't bring plants in without the proper licencing and quarantining - both of which he did not have
  19. I think we can only say "Try it and see" as it often depends on the individual fishes

We thought we had lost her. She was shut in the laundry - we thought. When Kelly went to take her out so she could use the washing machine (we have learned the machine terrifies the cat) she couldn't find her. Searched everywhere. We got home tonight and started a grid search. Finally found her... She had been in the laundry all the time but had leaped up onto the bench and climbed into a bucket! We had looked in one bucket but not the other as it was behind the others and we did not think the gap between the top of the bucket and the underside of the cupboard above was big enough for her to get into without the bucket falling over with her weight. Phew! Grant and I went Go Karting and mini golfing (well Grant did the karting) with the MX5 Club this morning then across the road to the Truck Stop Cafe for lunch. Had some good fun and laughter then decided we needed pudding, which the cafe did not have, so all (9 of us) headed back to town to the Cornerstone Bar for some delicious Banoffi Pie and hot chocolate.
  22. Sometimes you can have a "dead area" in the gravel. When you siphon, great bubbles of smelly gas erupt and these may cause harm to the fish but 'white stuff'? Are you using PH Up or Down? They can make funny fluff-like stuff appear on the gravel. I always stir up the gravel as much as possible when I siphon.
