  1. He is looking at an AquaOne CF1200. Is this suitable and is $128 a good price?
  2. They dry out remarkably quickly but if you did remove it for a few days it would quickly sink again once put back under water.
  3. They will take a while to settle. My bristlenoses like driftwood more than caves. Feed just before lights-out as they are nocturnal.
  4. I'd go with davidb's method.
  5. Have you seen the Hengeli rasboras? Like brighter, smaller, harlequins.
  6. It is important to collect the sand from above the waterline so you have less shell content. Salt doesn't matter as it is not absorbed by the stones so, if rinsed well, the salt will be negligible.

    Im Back

Well I missed you Brad. You have been a good source of aquatic information and have been very helpful to many. Now, behave yourself!
  8. Nothing is going on with my tank. It is a 250L tropical with various tetras, barbs and gouramis (not to mention the loaches, bristlenoses and hoplos). Heavily planted, understocked, and well filtered it has been running quite a few years now. All I do to it is the occasional water change every 3 or 4 months and prune the plants

    Hey hey

Your tank isn't big enough for a red tailed shark. Corys love being in a group but cope ok in smaller numbers
  10. Charcoal will get rid of tannins I think. Besides, if it leaches and you decide you don't like it, once removed it won't take long to get the water clear again just with normal maintenance water changes.
  11. Hi Joe, good to see you posting at last. 8) I think I might be able to help with the lights. Snookie, he isn't sure what rainbows are available and suitable for a beginner. He likes the dwarf neon rainbows and Boesemani.
  12. and to see if it will sink.
  13. It is said that breaking the ice hurts the fish. Many suggest floating a ball or something in the pond so when you remove it they have a breathing hole. As noted, my pond has decks overhanging each end so underneath the water is not frozen at those points.

    changeing clothes

Fish like to blend in with their surroundings so will change colour depending on surroundings. This is why it is suggested you use a darker, rather than light, substrate as the fish show their colours more. Against a pale substrate they tend to look washed out all the time as they try to blend in so they can't be seen by prey from above.
  15. Not anywhere thick enough to ice skate on here We were watching the fish swim under the ice this morning.

    Help,please

If he is near you he shouldn't be feeding them at all at this time of year. Putting them in a separate tank and warming them slowly is all I can think of at the moment

A complete water change? Uh oh. There could be a number of reasons for the problem then including temp change (though doubtful if it was rainwater) or a sudden pH change.

Another possibility is there is too much rubbish in the bottom of the tub and with winter, it is releasing toxins into the water. Was it cleaned before winter?

    Help,please

Where abouts is it? Goldfish semi hibernate in winter and once the temperature drops below 10C their digestive systems stop working. If they have eaten anything they may be having digestive problems. Do they have a spare container they can put the goldfish in and bring their temperature up a bit (to more than 10C)?
  20. Methinks Organism will have to move to bigger premises to make room for all those with nothing better to do than hang around there as often as possible
  21. The big pond (over 30m long) has stayed frozen all day for 2 days now. The 2 ends under the overhanging decks are not frozen of course. The ice on the small pond is 12mm thick at 5pm. The birdbath is still frozen solid The grass has not defrosted either Big pond ice is not so thick though
  22. Welcome to the fishroom. It is good to have a goal in life to aim for
