  1. We have a very low, dark green, MX5 convertible which is very hard to see, even in fine weather, so Grant jacked up 2 small lights to run all the time in the grill. They turn off when the main lights turn on. The number of people who flash their lights at us, or tell us our lights are on, is amazing! Seems to me the worst offenders at not turning on lights are the ones in the dark vehicles!
  2. We have had a civil emergency declared here. There is a cop stuck on Queen Charlotte Drive between one slip, which has covered the road, and one drop, where the road has collapsed  We have had 70mm of rain in the last 24 hours according to my weather station and our back yard is awash as the sump drain has overflowed. Pond has never been so high either. Several outlying schools are closed due to no power. Seddon water supply has been compromised with silt. People are being evacuated in Picton. Main roads closed at Renwick, Nelson and Picton I think. Can still get south via east coast but not sure for how long. Extensive flooding everywhere and one is just behind our place :-?
  3. Mine came in on plants too so once treated, it never returned. Try the blackout first. If that doesn't work, you may need to treat with Erythromycin (a prescription only drug). I may have some spare if required.
  4. No storms anywhere near here, not a breath of wind, but am totally sick of continual high overcast. You don't warm up without sunshine. Give me a good, crisp -4C frost followed by a brilliantly sunny day any time 8)

    Fin rott

Improve the water quality and the problem will resolve itself.
  6. They used to be but not these days  Danios work well.

    New tank

I did a search to find out what a swift rasbora was. Discovered they are the Hengelis. I do wish they would stop coming up with different names! These are great fish and I have them myself. They are also very suitable for the small tank you have. Did you check the ph etc of the water they came from before you acclimated them to the new tank? The temperature will swing a few degrees and this is normal and not a problem. Rasboras generally like a current, their torpedo shape makes them suited to faster moving water.
  8. Don't know where to find it in ChCh (west coast beaches are ideal) but when you find them a good scrub and rinse will suffice.
  9. Neons aren't too good to cycle with as they die easily these days  Hope they survive the cycle. Any smaller schooling fish will go well with them. Try to get a lot of one species rather than a few of lots of species.
  10. Sounds like cyanobacter. Something is out of balance. Try lifting out as much as possible then do a total tank blackout for at least 3 days. Don't feed the fish during this time either. Then do a good water change and siphon. It would be good if you can find the cause. Can be brought in on plants or in water from another tank.
  11. There are a few members from the Waikato club in here. They meet at the Hamilton Zoo, 3pm on the 1st Sunday of the month.
  12. What makes you think it was a pick-up line? I can see why more women prefer to stay single these days if this is an example of best pick up lines :-?
  13. I haven't received any but I suggest someone notifies her that it has happened as I doubt it originates from her. That scam has been doing the rounds for years and years.
  14. Writing an article? I do hope it is for me! 8)
  15. Welcome. You do get strange looks from people who are not fish oriented  I myself don't understand why some carry on about their dogs or cats. I like them as animals but they are not little furry people!
  16. and it is such a pretty colour

Mine get resized to 640 x 480 then saved as medium which makes them about 80kb, give or take 20 or so kb. That is a good size. Yours looks like you have made them too small, pixel-wise.
  18. I use daylight and bright white (depending on brand) tubes and get them from electrical wholesaler. About $5 - $7 from memory
  19. Will do so for you both. I will also have 2 pieces of cake on your behalf Plus Grant just got called out so I wil have to eat his too.

Read the 3rd sticky from the top in the Freshwater section. Welcome.
  22. What sort of filter have you got and how often do you clean it and do water changes? Don't forget your fish will have grown since the tank was set up so the load on the filter increases over time. I just cleaned out my Jebo 819 after about 12 months running. Got 3/4 of a 2L ice cream container full of gunk out of it. Water flow had still been good. I was just curious to see how gunky the filter was. Didn't over clean it though as that would destroy too much of the beneficial bacteria living in the gunk.
  23. Grant started to download Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory once. Luckliy it hadn't got far when he had a quick look to check the quality. Lots of willies but no chocolate in it!!
  24. Yes we do goldfish. Frostwire works the same (and looks the same) as Limewire but doesn't have the malware
  25. Our meeting tomorrow will be at 2pm at Joe's house, 173 Scott St. Blenheim. Topic for discussion - Why Fish Die Drinks and food on offer! 8) All welcome :bounce:
