The bowl is really not suitable for 3 goldfish. Does it have to be goldfish? I assume it needs to be coldwater so what about leopardfish or white cloud minnows instead? Goldfish are very messy and, as said, would not do well without a filter or daily water changes. If the boss is set on goldfish and doesn't care about their welfare so much, get the fancy ones that just hang about with droopy tails, not comets. Is the 80 - 100L when it is filled to the top? Ideally it should just be filled to the widest part to give maximum surface area.

FX5 box says filtration volume 20L so I assume it means how much water it holds. It will also tale 5.9L of media. The time my wet/dry stayed boxed had nothing to do with why it broke 6 months after use. It just meant we could not claim a replacement under warranty. I guess I will have the same problem with this filter as I have no proof I bought it a long time before it was actually used.

Ours lived happily on flake food.

The colour surprises me too sa I would have thought it would revert back to more 'natural' colouring.

If anyone wants a break from the shaking, we have spare room at our place. You would be welcome.

The showcase we were to attend has been cancelled so it looks like we will not be down after all. Not sure whether I am happy or not! :-?

I will bring as much water as I can - assuming we are stil coming. We are supposed to be attending a computer show in the convention centre but if the aftershocks continue they might cancel it.

We are supposed to be coming down to ChCh on Monday and I wondered if a few barrels of water for water changes might be helpful? I think I have 4 or 5 30L containers.

Have you got a water supply to do changes in the turtle tanks Donna? I am at work today checking all the sites almost continually to see what is happening. Haven't heard back from Gareth since he said they had just had another big one. May have lost power now. I am sure he and Dena are fine but they are certainly sick of the shaking!

Both sewage and water mains have broken in some areas Deepsound so water changes are not possible. Donna is having major problems with all her turtle tanks. There is no spare water to put into containers for water changes. I hear the first of the gastrointestinal bugs have hit too
