Do you think they would if they were hidden in a wooden box? My husband wants to make a box for said trough that slides over the top and has a wooden top edge that covers the top plastic edge. You would see a sort of planter box pond rather than a selection of grubby buckets.

So those with dither fish, how many do you need and how does it work? Is it a large shoal that makes the small fish feel safe, or the presence of unscared fish, or bigger fish, or smaller fish than them? I suspect it can't be the presence of bigger fish or people with discus would need huge other fish as dithers?? :dunno: At the store there are some dwarves in with some larger dither fish, 1 inch+ and 3 were sitting at the front of the tank and unmoveable to me waving about like a moron. The mosquito rasbora are the smallest and possibly most appropriate for my 22L tank. Also available by ordering were danio - nigrafaciatus, shanesis and kyathit, though ranging up to twice the price of a rasbora.

get on your bike and whizz down to Kings Plant Barn and have a look among their rocks in bags, they are usually with the outdoor ceramic pots. Howick store is big, I'm sure they will have the ones I saw at St Lukes. Also if you have a Central Landscaping Supplies near you, they may have something too.

Do you mean breed as in Breeder style-collecting eggs and growing in seperate tanks etc, or a community of them in a planted tank style such as what I have with the scheeli? If the latter suits you then I am looking for another small fish when my scheeli have moved on. If you are keen for a proper breeding person then I couldn't do that. what killi book is it?
