    This or that

    deaf white or dark chocolate?
  4. Ken Ring would say it's all related - moon pulling on things because it is closer to the earth at perigee + water + magnetic fields or something... he had something on his site about dolphins or whales at one point. I don't think animals are immune to the effects of the moon anymore than humans and plants are.

  6. very cool wood reminds me of Brambly Hedge childrens stories
  7. thanks everybody. Foxglove, you overcompliment my photos, some of them are terribly out of focus but I put them there anyway so you could see the fish in action. Joe, yes please to some willisii crypt if you get a chance, I have become quite a collector!
  8. Here is my first dwarf corydora species tank (not counting the 2 shrimps). A HUUUGE 22 litres. Substrate is a mix of river and silica sand and 9/18 river pebbles. A few oak leaves - the cories love them, always snuffling about the edges and up the sides. Lighting is 7w 6500K for approx 6 hours a day. 3 JBL balls under various crypts, other ferts only when needed occasionally, as per the low tech regime. Looks a little flat at the moment, partly because it's a small tank and I have chosen small specimens, partly because they are all new and yet to establish. And yes I have no background so they can enjoy some natural light as well. Later I am moving this up into the living room where there is very little natural light so I will paint the back of the tank. Plant layout from above From anubias nana bottom left clockwise: narrow java fern, undulata crypt, cordata crypt, back corner with dark stems and pea green leaves with corrugated edges – mystery crypt (does anyone recognise it?), pearl weed, twisted val, wendtii green and/or brown, affinis crypt. Philippine java fern and Christmas moss on the wood. 7 dwarves. There is one that is visibly larger than the rest, am hoping it's a she-dwarf. Their tail coloration is not like the one that comes up on google images/aquahobby site in terms of the white at the end of the tail but in the swimming picture you can see a hint of the white.

  10. I took some last night but one wouldn't load and then I had to halt all PC activity to watch The A Team I will have another go last night.
  11. Yes already I can see they are more active swimmers than the peppered cory I had in another tank. I have put small mozzies in there and daphnia, I thought they weren't eating them so I stayed still and waited and found them rootling in the substrate disturbing the daphnia and making very odd jerking motions trying to eat them. Some of the daphnia are quite big but I think they are still managing to chomp them down. I am definitely going to get some more if I can.
  12. Welcome to your first day of freedom Nikki! Baycorp are often looking for staff, if you don't mind a roster that includes some lateish nights I think once in 5 weeks. They advertise every few months. My friend recently left there as she had to commute by ferry and it was too difficult with the hours. From what she said I think there are better places to work as far as cheerful work environments but if money is priority then it might be an option. They are in Ponsonby.
