  1. Been spending today - got 3 more dwarves today, these are a bit bigger in size. Got them an eheim pickup 2006 and the cool dudes at Para Rubber cut me a sliver of filter sponge so I can wrap it over the grill. This way the cory get to chomp on filter scrapings like they can on the sponge filter, and I get to plug the biggest gaps in the event they ever breed. Preliminary wet testing under way at present, will post a photo if the experiment works
  2. is your mother in law over for dinner Ira?

    cory and others

I would be interested to know how many corydora people in keep in what size tanks. Aqadvisor says I am already over stocked at 117% with only 7 dwarves which looks utterly ridiculous in real life, they literally have heaps of room. I thought I would increase the numbers to 10 and then add 3-5 dither fish in a month or more if the bigger shoal make them less shy. Aqadvisor says that 10 dwarves with an eheim pickup that can handle double the water volume of the tank it would be overstocked at 144% haha  Am I missing something about corydora? I have never seen one poop yet. Though of course they must be  For the dithers I am thinking either to get a few small danio, or maybe the other way and getting a couple of bigger cory. :dunno:
  4. Hey Foxglove, what size are your cory tanks, do you have any little tanks like mine?
  5. I bought one for his tail and he spent all his days chasing and harassing the other peaceful ones, till eventually they started ganging up on him instead. I ended up selling him to restore tranquility but that didn't work either, they were all snappy after that, the spell had been broken! In the end I sold them all and got more cardinals instead.
  6. I feed mine cat biscuits. My worms miaow too.
  7. I think HOB are no good for killie tanks because you need as few gaps in the lid as possible
  8. cough... cough... check last page of Chch earthquake thread... someone from here is going down there... they might be able to ...cough... cough... cough if you asked nicely
  9. no idea but if you are spending that much you could go to HFF and get an Eheim pickup 2006 like mine for $57 less the 10% fnzas discount if you have your membership card. It does up to 45 litres - or is your tank bigger? Next size up is about another $20 but they are worth it.
  10. I am mean to my whiteworms - so that I could safely feed them to smaller fish and also ensure that all the fish got a bite, I cut them up live and feed in smaller pieces.
  11. mine do Ok in peat. Am going to try peat and old potting mix next
  12. Dance parties with a ticket fee that included subs for Tauranga Fishhead Club. Soon you would have the biggest club in NZ ! does your nature park have a cafe? maybe you could put one in there? or surround the walls with noctural reptiles and amphibians and then host sleepovers where no-one would get any sleep through listening to the croaking and carrying on  surely someone has a much more sensible suggestion
  13. very sweet  thanks for the pics
  14. in this bit http://www.wainhousedist.co.nz/forms/Pa ... 0Guide.pdf page 2 at the bottom there are some preserving jars that go up to about 5 litres for about $10 each exc GST. They might do the job. If you ring them during the week and press the button for glass sales the guy there is quite helpful.
  15. Went back tonight for dinner .... the start of many. For $21 total we shared 6 malaysian satay chicken skewers, husband had chinese beef curry on rice noodles, I had chicken curry on rice noodles, and we shared 3 japanese pancakes for pudding. Definitely recommend the malaysian satay - it's a middle aged couple and they sell only those. The husband cooks the skewers and they marinate in the warm sauce before the wife serves them with a dollop of sauce. The chinese stall we went to was the one in the middle where there is 50 or so year old man doing the cooking and young people serving, they are right in the middle of the food stalls. He cooked each batch of noodles seperately in hot water, then put a ladle of chicken broth on, then the curry sauce. We both thought the broth would water down the curry but it didn't, it was very good. Beef was better than the chicken, nice and tender and quite a few pieces, had dried orange and 5 spice flavour.
  16. bought some jars here for jam, they have a whole range of jars and at wholesale prices too - beats the shops http://www.wainhousedist.co.nz/products.html look up the code and then find it's price in the pricing guide under the downloads section. Also there is this place http://www.arthurholmes.co.nz/index.php?cPath=1176 and they deliver also. got same idea as TawnyKitty - Wainhouse are in St Lukes and there isn't a minimum either
