  3. I can see that fat barb, or is Barb?
  4. I forgot about those, they are even bigger. Don't know if there are any in NZ anymore though.
  5. killiefish said the nano tank woman  golden panchax is the biggest I've seen
  6. nope, broad daylight, or rather sheltered with dappled sunlight. I looked for them in the shallows and didn't see any so gave up, then happened upon them by chance, you might have same luck
  7. I didn't like seeing how they caught the otos and then grabbed handfuls and just dropped them into the carrying bag. No wonder they get the reputation for being 'sensitive' - by the time they get here they have been through hell.
  8. BikBok and C/S's eel names make me laugh. Their appearance do lend themselves to funny names though.
  9. When I caught shrimps I did so by accident by dragging the net along some weed - caught about 10 in one go.
  10. Stella did you take the plunge and try it yet?
  11. Yes they do come a bit after the light is out but since yesterday they are now venturing out a few at a time with the loaches. I may yet rearrange or get a smaller piece of driftwood as they still hide in the tunnel and under the filter but at least I can see where they are now. Will give it a month or so anyway, HFF will soon be giving me a key for all the visiting I've been doing lately . The lighting is quite dim I think, it's a 7 watt clip on T5 that comes from the left side to the middle, the right side where the filter is gets less light. Also as I'm treating it as a low tech tank the lights only come in the afternoon till evening for 7 hours. Those loaches are funny, extremely active. As evening set in they started going up and down in the current and almost putting their whole face out of the water. Then they would swim over to the other side and fluff around in the sand, flicking it around, and this morning they have worn a 2 cm dent in the corner.
  12. looks good. I like the blue stripey ones If that is a val plant of some sort may I recommend gently pulling them out a little so that you can *just* see the roots otherwise they may rot away. If they aren't val then please just read above compliment
  13. As above I would like to know what non peat spawners are available now or coming up in the next 2 or 3 months. Doesn't have to be Auckland if you are willing to ship. Please post here or PM me. thanks very much
  14. Here is the culmination of Multi Bucket Syndrome - The Taj Mahal of buckets - Bugtopia! 1 x $20 80L heavy duty container from Bunnings + about $15 worth of wood and screws. Container sits on the ground and box fits over the top of the plastic to cover the edges. Have moved all my bugs and water from the 2 buckets and since the first bucket went in the mosquitoes have christened with 2 rafts. Whose eggs are these? Looks like a miniature slinky inside jelly, when I enlarged the photo I could see it was tiny eggs in a spiral.
