  1. what happened to the torrent fish that was holding his tail lopsided?
  2. :smot: :slfg: I have been advised by another person who I trust that carbon doesn't dump the toxins back in, it just stops adsorbing, so the point being made is not necessarily wrong even if you don't agreed with the approach of the poster. To answer Caryl: I didn't add any silicone, it was just rubber with a slit cut in it, squashed around the divider and jammed in the tank.
  3. Here's something interesting I just learnt: The rubber I used was most likely EPDM and reading through this link it says it's often used as a pond liner. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPDM_rubber why did it kill my fish then - is that it's ok in greater amounts of water? :-?
  4. The dog seemed to be saying the same thing
  5. ......just realised that the original light fitting is 7 watts, not 11 watts, so it will be getting double the amount of light.

    The What's Up? thread.

Hey Smurff how about more pictures :spop: I would like to get a better look at the shipwreck. Sword plants can be expensive at the LFS but you can often find them on here or on TM for a bit cheaper. Some TM sellers don't give much information though and by the time you get them they can be bashed about so sometimes paying a bit more at the shop so you know what you are getting is worth it. Also you could post a Wanted To Buy thread in our section. Sometimes people are willing to give away the babies for cheap or free too.
  7. Re LED I was looking at options and I hadn't seen this one yet. It's half the price of LED and about T8 I can find plenty of information and get replacement tubes for so I am happy with the trade off. thanks for the comments
  8. those pellets were also tumbling down and didn't put up a fight :rotf:
  9. does VoIP mean that you have no phone when the network is down?
  10. and this one dog competing with crying baby
  11. Have just bought a new light for the loach tank and I'd like to know what is the best way to start using it without it causing an algae outbreak or cause the inhabitants any stress? The current light is a clip on 11W that is clipped to one side of the tank running along the width rather than the length. It's on about 6 hours a day. I think it's 6500K or thereabouts The new one will run lengthwise across the top (whole fitting is 520mm so I guess the bulb is about 300mm) and is 15W T8 solar (no kelvin rating that I know of yet). Any suggestions appreciated, especially from people who have done this and had success or failed already and know what not to do
  12. I have some welding flux that I use for testing rocks instead of vinegar. I know it works because it sizzles when it hits the concrete. You can get some of that from Placemakers/Bunnings etc.
  13. I see you have a photobomber too :sml2: ... the geo/snapper lookalike
  14. he looks extremely clean for a boy..... had you only just taken him out of his car seat or is he a naturally un-grubby little guy?
  15. Maybe you could just put a bigger layer of silica over the top so you don't have to go through the rigmarole of changing it all out again.
  16. I thought the point of Naked DSL was that you don't have to have a landline.
  17. anyway I recommend getting the book out of the library as it has some yummy stuff

    The What's Up? thread.

I put a selection of books in the cart and then it told me how much it came to in NZ dollars. I was astounded. I think I must be way behind :gigl:
  19. You could do that or you could do gravel with JBL balls for the nutrient factor
