  1. My Dad's water comes out of the tap at 10.7 pH - are there any fish other than cichlids that tolerate or like that sort of water?
  2. that will be her book pre-published  :digH:
  3. The light has been on there only a few days and the algae was there already under the 7 watt bulb. Tank is about 28cm deep I think.
  4. One small update .... I had taken a baby from the needle/narrow leaf java fern and put it under a rock on the left side flat rock. It's now attached itself so have done the same with a piece of ordinary java fern at the front. Also wanted to show Phoenix44 what the rocks look like now, they are blending in nicely where before they were quite pale.
  5. There are lots of new plants to show you as well 2 new inhabitants: an oto, and a shrimp that is twice the size of my earlier crustacean critters. There are 3 new brown wendtii crypts, some lilaeopsis in the foreground and some large java fern stuffed into the driftwood cave the loaches never use. Since the oto went in a few days ago he's already cleaned up much of the brown algae from the back glass. When he's finished doing his duties in here I will despatch him to the CPD tank for further employment. Full tank shot with fancy new light Close up Left side Middle Right side Does anyone know why the anubias gets this dark green covering on the older leaves? There also seems to be green spot on top of the other algae. New movies: New Shrimp - 30secs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNDMKxqN8RA Rasbora playing in current - 1:29 mins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJEOjY6Mcw4 Loaches and shrimp pellet – 5 mins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN7SjFHSn6I This one is in 3 parts, though I apologise in advance as the first 2 parts are taken without macro setting on - the 3rd part is definitely clearer. In this movie you see that I have put a shrimp pellet at the front of the tank but they know I'm watching and sneak around the back to get to it. On the way they boof the shrimp rudely. Then I scare them and they dash away and then come back again via the back way and disturb the shrimp again. You will also see them emerging and entering their self-dug cave on the left side, and a lone rasbora going nuts in the current near the end.

  11. There's nowhere to stay at our place Stella but I will show you the bugs in the troughs of Cornwall Park if you come around. Good luck with your adventure, I hope it helps you clear your mind for excessive happy thoughts :happy2:
  12. Try these people Joe - http://www.centaland.co.nz/landscape-garden-supplies/ This is just one of the sort of landscaping places I looked up and is the sort of place I got my original East Coast Play Sand from that is at the beginning of my loach tank thread - is that the sort of pale you mean? You can usually drive right in to these places, and have a look at it piled in the walled area and then buy a bag. If you take a bottle of water with you you can wet it and see what colour it is under water - imagine it as that colour but with light shining on it, usually comes up lighter still. Play sand is usually fine and smooth like silica sand but not as perfectly smooth and it will have different grain colours and maybe sizes too. If you like the stuff in the bottom of my loach tank now it's called West Coast black sand or Woodville forest. Am not sure if they ship that stuff down to the south island or not but it's not black, it's quite gold when under the water. In any case they will likely have a couple of different types. Usually there is a bloke on hand to help lift stuff into the back of the car if it's really heavy. You will also see rocks and other tempting things...Any sand you buy from this place will need to be washed really well as it's been outside in the weather etc.

!drool: Steph I was going to say there is a good place for buying new cheap jars in St Lukes but I see you've moved again so you'll probably want something closer to home.

haha you sound like my husband. I set the alarm for 555am yesterday so we could go fishing and he was snoozy all afternoon, went to bed early and then slept in this morning. what do you guys sell at market? in other news I turned the last 2 mini pavlovas into a combination of my 2 favourite desserts. My husband made the custard inner of a milk tart, I let it set and then put spoonfuls on a plate with the broken meringue, passionfruit and spray cream. I have to go for a walk now as that was preceded by roast chicken and I'm not sure my delicate constitution will let me sleep otherwise. :happy1: :cofn:
