  1. I don't think you are allowed to release previously captive animals back into the environment... someone else will confirm.

I now have a pair of gardneri killies for my breeding project :bounce:
  3. it's a very delicate looking fish, the 'wings' and fins are very feathery as if made of lace. I think I have to get him/her a friend as they need their own kind as company according to planetcatfish. This was an occasion where I did my homework after buying the fish instead of the other way round - I thought it would be cool with the loaches but turns out they prefer less boisterous companions and cooler temperatures so this tank 'should' be good aside from the fact that they supposedly like sand.
  4. cute how the parent looks on with googly eyes :slfg:
  5. I've named it Mothra but there are so many hiding places for him I doubt I'll ever see him again :sml2:
  6. hmm that's interesting. The loaches do chase them a little bit but only at feeding time when I first put the food in.
  7. vid of wiggle-swimming and wonky tail http://youtu.be/AQOEaaoj2EA Found one of my dwarf rasbora swimming about very odd just now and on closer inspection looks like he had a bite out of his underside just after the fin. It could at a push have been done by the other fish but I don't know if any of them have mouths that big. I thought that if it had been trapped in the filter it's tail would have been more mashed. Has anyone else seen this before? I have put this one to sleep. The rasbora are slowly reducing in numbers, I found one that had been dead a little while a couple of weeks ago, no obvious reasons. There were 12 and now I think I have 9 or 10. I wonder if these mini fish are not so hardy anyway. Any thoughts??

Hello KaZ38 If they are only eating the flakes that fall down it probably means they are a bit scared to come to the top for a couple of reasons. Little fish are usually more willing to come to the top when there are plants that go all the way to the top too. You could put some twisted val in the background that will eventually twist over the top surface, or some ambulia, cabomba, stargrass - any stem plant really. Many little fish also only feel safe in a larger group so it might improve straight away if you double them. The other thing you can do is go to the chemist and get a dropper (I use the one with the pink rubber squeezy bit), put some flake in some water from the fishtank, then suck them up and fire them into the water towards them (similar to GrahamC's suggestion). Some fish like to think their food is alive and it helps when it's in the water rather than floating.
  9. I could picture a guppy might want a tattoo with 'nip me' near his tail...
  10. did you get it from Joe? He has a willisii crypt that looks a bit like that.
  11. obviously there are good and bad fishkeepers in those countries but I don't think your comments were racist, just comments on your own observations.
  12. Welcome Jacob There are plenty of inspirational shops around to get fishy ideas, Bird Barn's quite good out your way and HFF Mt Roskill, Animates are quite good for seeing big groups of little fish too.
  13. fish fight! my cardinals did that from time to time and my dwarf rasbora do it occasionally as well.
  14. cool what sort of killies have you got in there?
  15. There's a bird rescue organisation in Titirangi/Green Bay.
