I know  muffins in paeroa will have to be another day, I couldn't justify the petrol in coming all that way just for a muffin as tasty as they are... Tauranga seemed too far too so I didn't get to the historic village either. But I did make and eat 3 different pavlovas, do lots of fishing, snorkel at Goat Island, go for a swim, go to Waiwera hot pools, do some sewing, gardening, exercise.... it was pretty good to be at home with no commitments. It's a bit hard getting up early again. :tears:
  2. grow some veges (especially lettuce), the snails will come :gigl:

Adrienne's corydora are mini submarines
  4. :sml2: Graham, I think your experiment did not compare like-situations. You need to do one with the same kind of water in each bucket and one with landing pads, one without and see where you get the rafts. :spop:

you couldn't wait for someone else to come home?
  6. Welcome Blackworm I insulate my 2 tanks in the garage where it's cold-ish but the ones in the house are not.

Today is my last day of freedom before going back to work tomorrow :tears: In saying that I made a list of all the things I did and ate while on holiday and it's pretty big. For someone who didn't go away anywhere I packed a lot in (food and activities) and today I even caught some fish at fishing :bounce:
  8. I found interesting driftwood once at Orere Point - where in Auckland are you and how far do you want to drive? At other times you get the most stuff on a beach after a high sea that has the wind blowing right on the shore.

Anthony, I found a T shirt for you http://www.grabonetee.co.nz/monique-dumb?utm_source=GrabOne+Auckland&utm_campaign=ET_15939_nz-main_auckland_20120220&utm_medium=email I am thinking of getting it myself :sml2:
  11. I've seen them all the way to the bottom of the tank but I still leave the top poking out just in case. Not sure it would really help if something did go wrong but you never know
  12. cool I hope your frogs behave :gigl:
  13. must have gone as the ones I see are $60 I'd have one and put plants in it on my desk at work
  14. Oh, and today's update is that I moved the 7 danio erythromicrons from the breeding project into this tank today so I could observe them for a while. They are quite nervous compared to the CPDs but are attempting to participate as a group.
  15. Henward, I think all your fish would become pigs with all that homebrewed fishfood you make :sml2: do the plecos try to cross breed or can they recognise their own kind well enough?
  16. I tend to buy filters that are slightly over spec for my tank, for instance if the tank is 30 litres then I get one that says suitable for 50 litres or more etc, but not too much as I don't want to make a whirlpool... and be it good or bad I usually trust what is written on the box. I have used Eheims since getting into fishkeeping, they seem a pretty good and tidy brand, though at the more pricey end. If one of mine died I'd probably try something else just for a change.
  17. Phew.... you scared me. The catfish does look very predatory with those mean little eyes, he looks like a miniature anything-chomper but according to Planetcatfish it seems that I may get away with it.......... http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/cotm.php?article_id=350 so now you can have some too! :happy1:
  18. I thought bristlenoses were vegetarian or ate what fell to the bottom ?? :nilly: He/she is small at present - see the badi on the left? Is not much bigger than him. Mothra is out at present. He's very small indeed, and not so pretty for all his lace.
